For the geeks here, it's pure text, so can be hacked to make small changes and corrections with a simple text editor then converted back to a more usual format like Mobi or ePub.

Just what we need--one more ebook format. haha

I do not remember ever hearing about it before. I'm sure that it is discussed on the applicable forum and thread on Mobileread. I try to stay away from the technical end of ebook creation, collecting, reading, etc.

Looking over the Wikipedia article, it looks like the format definitely has some things to commend it.

Thanks.

FREE Pdf Reading and Discussion Guides to Many of C.S. Lewis' Works.

Hi. Mister PDF here. ha

I've got some more good, free pdfs for you. Reading and discussion guides on various books authored by C.S. Lewis are available free on a website called www.smallgroupguides.com. The website belongs to the publisher HarperOne, who publishes a large amount of Lewis' works.

Even though these are called "small group" guides, I see no reason why they wouldn't also be greatly helpful to individuals, too. Many Christians are fans of C.S. Lewis and his works. I am one of them. But I have one problem: I find him hard to understand! I have to read or listen over and over to his books in order to understand fully what he's saying. Some of that may be due to his style of speaking or to the way that he thinks, but most of it may be due to the fact that his level of thinking is so much higher than mine. All of those may be areas where guides like this would be helpful.

The guides are short, averaging probably around only 5 pages long. Most, if not all, of Lewis' major writings are represented.

For your convenience, I've listed all of the available guides here:
Mere Christianity--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...ristianity.pdf.
The Screwtape Letters--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...apeLetters.pdf.
Miracles--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...les_hi-res.pdf.
A Grief Observed--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...ved.final_.pdf.
The Abolition of Man--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...Man_hi-res.pdf.
The Great Divorce--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...atDivorce2.pdf.
The Weight of Glory--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...htOfGlory3.pdf.
The Problem of Pain--http://www.smallgroupguides.com/word...ain.final_.pdf.
George MacDonald--https://www.cslewis.com/images/ckfin...MacDonald2.pdf.

Alternatively, you may follow this link where you will find the links to all of the guides (scroll down to nearly the bottom of the page).

Perhaps needlessly to say, I couldn't find at smallgroupguides.com a single pdf combining all of these small group guides together. There might be some way to "stitch" digitally all of these guides together. If so, perhaps one of you knows how to do it or where to go to get the information on how to do it. If so, please share it with us.

The ebook Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die is available as a free download (pdf) from the website www.desiringgod.org.

I'm almost certain that this title has been made available, in the recent past, as a mobi and ePub freebie and that information about that has been posted in this forum. However, I don't remember seeing a post about the pdf being free before. You may be interested in knowing that Amazon currently sells the Kindle mobi for $6.99 (link).

The book is written by the popular author John Piper. It is in the pdf format and is 127 pages long. It is rated 4.7 stars, from 104 reviews, at the present moment at Amazon.

Here's the direct link to the pdf at desiringgod.org.

My posting of this book does not necessarily mean that I agree with any doctrinal position taken in the book.

Biography of J. Gresham Machen by Ned B. Stonehouse--FREE in Mobi and ePub!

I am especially excited about posting this ebook. That's true for several reasons. First, I'll give you details about the book.

It's entitled J. Gresham Machen: A Biographical Memoir and written by Ned B. Stonehouse. Stonehouse was considered an expert on Gresham, I suppose, with him having written several books about Machen or his work.

The book appears to be 471 pages long, at least in the ePub. This ebook is seemingly of the first edition (1954).

The book is in print. There is a Kindle edition available at Amazon for $9.99, though it appears to be of a later edition. A hardcover of this edition starts at $4.75 there.

How good is this book? Well there is only one review, with a 4-star rating, at Amazon. However, there is an excellent 4.25 rating at GoodReads, from 20 ratings.

The main reason for my excitement is that I've had immense respect for Machen since college days, when I was required to read one of his books. Machen did his work around the turn of the 20th century or the early 20th century. He wrote about a dozen books I think. He was a brilliant scholar and also served as president of Princeton University for a number of years. Princeton was (and maybe is still considered to be) a Presbyterian college, but it was far less liberal and far less secularized then than it is today. Machen was in the thick of the fight against Princeton's movement into greater liberalism. I am looking forward to reading about Machen in this biography.

The book is free in a mobi and ePub version. I couldn't find a free pdf anywhere. A heads up: I downloaded both the mobi and ePub versions. The ePub didn't render well at all in Adobe Digital Editions. The mobi looks fine in Kindle for PC 5.

Here are the direct links:
mobi.
ePub.

FREE (Pdf) of The Quran Unveiled, by Dave Miller Ph.D., at Apologetics Press.

This book is regularly sold in paperback at Amazon for $14.95. However, the publisher, Apologetics Press, kindly is providing it free as a pdf. As far as I can tell, the book is not available in pdf or any other digital format anywhere else at any price.

It is The Quran Unveiled, by Dave Miller Ph.D. It is approximately 300 pages in length. Reviewers at Amazon almost universally make glowing comments about the book, and give it an average rating of 4.7 stars. However, there are only 6 reviews. There are none at GoodReads at the present moment.

Here's the book description from Amazon:
The Quran and the Bible stand in stark contradistinction to each other. Many people refuse to consider the beliefs of others, and simply stick with that to which their family and cultural environment exposed them. But in order to grasp the full extent of the chasm that exists between the Bible and the Quran, one should read both thoroughly. Muslims should read the Bible, and Christians should read the Quran. Doing so has caused the author to marvel at the disparity between the two.The primary purpose of The Quran Unveiled is to examine Islam’s holy book with a view toward ascertaining whether it is, in fact, of supernatural origin.

Here's the direct link to the webpage with the pdf at Apologetics Press.

They only make books available to purchase in print copies. However, they are a non-profit and are making their catalog free in PDF form!

Honestly, I'm not trying to be disagreeable . . . . ha

If I understand your first sentence correctly, you are saying that AP only publishes (for sale) in the physical book format. I believe that that is not completely correct, although their selection of for-sale ebooks may be quite limited. I find about ten, all of one particular series, at Amazon in the Kindle mobi format here. I didn't check anywhere for the availability of ePubs.

Well, I hope that you're right about AP making their catalog free. Frankly, I'll believe it when I see it. I've been getting communications from them for quite a number of years and I know that they made this announcement at least once before, about five years ago.

The Truth about Human Origins--a FREE 517-Page Pdf from Apologetics Press.

One more free pdf from Apologetics Press that looks worthwhile . . . .

It's The Truth about Human Origins, by Brad Harrub and Bert Thompson. There are ix 517 pages.*

From Amazon (where only a hardcover seems to be available of this title, and it is $21.95):
This investigation of man s origins examines the fossil record, gender and sexual reproduction, language, the brain, mind and consciousness, skin color and blood types, etc. Each chapter presents an insurmountable obstacle for evolutionary theory, and discusses current scientific data that uphold the creation model.

It is rated 4.0 stars at Amazon, but from only 3 reviews at the present moment. It is rated 4.75, from 4 ratings, at GoodReads.

Here's where to go to get it.

*I've been seeing this way of notating the number of pages in a book a lot lately while scrounging around the Internet for ebooks. The publisher will put the number of total number of pages of the foreword, preface, etc., in small Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, etc.) and will follow it with the number of pages in the main part of the text, in Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). That does better reflect the actual number of pages in a book. I think that I'm going to start using it all of the time.
