Confusion of terms, I think. By EN-EN, I mean a monolingual dictionary. Translation isn't involved

Using the 'Chambers 1908' as an example, I renamed Chambers1908.zip to dicthtml-it.zip and replaced the original Italian monolingual dictionary, .kobo/dict/dicthtml-it.zip (saving original somewhere safe, of course).

Then to use it, if you long-press a word and it's not found in the normal English dictionary, just tap the language sub-menu arrow in the pop-up and select Italiano. The Kobo will look up the word in the dicthtml-it.zip file (now Chambers 1908).

I put another dictionary on the H2O and I replaced the Portuguese to English dictionary. When I next connect the H2O to the computer, I'll make it just the Portuguese dictionary.

Yes, that should work OK. I've loaded the free 'Websters 1913' as my Portuguese monolingual dictionary (dicthtml-pt.zip).

I cannot see needing any foreign language single language dictionary. So I can just add those as needed and be fine.

There's no copyright on individual words, so feel free to compile them into a dictionary yourself. Suddenly copyright on a dictionary might not seem so ridiculous.

Hi Everyone, I was fortunate enough to receive both the Kindle Voyage and Kobo H2O for Christmas due to a misunderstanding between my mother and husband. Anyhoooo, I'm after some help with the Kobo as it's new to me. I'm a dab hand with Calibre and Kindles. My husband will be using one of the devices. When I have set both up with my books and settings, then I'll be happy to post a review/comparison and answer any questions. My query is how to sideload converted AZW3/mobi books without DRM to the Kobo and how best to modify any settings. The Voyage is up and running beautifully as I'm an Amazon customer with an old kindle, but I'd really like to use the Kobo for its larger screen, nicer customisable fonts etc. Any advice would be appreciated. Can someone please tell me exactly which plugins to load for Calibre, and best conversion from AZW3 or mobi ? I'm ok with eBooks and Calibre, it's just that the Kobo is new and I'd really like some hints and tips. Thanks very much

Hi MandyMill, I'm a bit of a Calibre novice. I'd suggest posting your question over on the Kobo forum; there are folks there much more knowledgeable about such things.

MandyMill, I would suggest checking out the Calibre plugin thread for the Kobo Utilities. It's a very very useful plugin to go along with your new H2Os.

I still can't decide which to give to my husband and which one to keep for myself. They are both lovely in my eyes.

Thanks for that. I've installed the utilities plugin and had a look at the thread. I'm unable to get the chapter stats working with my side loaded KePubs which is a shame, but everything else is good.

Go with the bigger screen and device you can fall asleep in the bathtub with.

... unless of course you prefer the greater portability, much better dictionary, and more accurate touchscreen of the Voyage .

You've hit the nail on the head there. I'm down to larger screen and customisable fonts vs compact and flush design

My husband doesn't mind which one he has. He's had a quick play with both. It would be me setting it up and side loading books on for him anyway.
