Free today on Amazon UK - Cold Blood by Alex Shaw
'SAS trooper Aidan Snow is in charge of training a new Polish unit when he is called to lead the barely-trained men into an operation to foil a bank robbery. Disaster strikes when the criminals blow the convoy to hell, and Snow is left fighting for his life in a car’s wreckage. A green-eyed soldier stands over him and watches what he believes are Snow’s last breaths; but he doesn’t pull the trigger. Ten years on and Snow is teaching in Ukraine, keeping a low profile. But events will force Snow into a life-or-death chase. The green-eyed man, Taurus Pashinski – also known as the Bull – is employed by old military contacts to help smuggle arms and drugs over the border of Ukraine. A young, vengeful ex-soldier is drawn into the Bull’s plot when he persuades him that two British investors are his older brother’s killers. The murders will spark a manhunt in Britain and a series of dramatic events in Ukraine which will drag Snow and his friends into deeper and deeper trouble. With crooked intelligence officers, ambitious businessmen and bloodthirsty ex-military, Ukraine rapidly becomes a killing zone. Has Aidan Snow still got what it takes to come out of retirement and face the Bull? What is the Bull really after, and what will he do to get it? Will the ex-SAS soldier be able to defeat his old nemesis before he destroys everything Snow holds dear? Free again from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon:
The Dead Room by Robert Ellis (SYKM) a standalone corporate attorney vs serial killer crime thriller apparently set in Philadelphia, which the blurb says serves as an introduction to his character Lena Gamble, who is a police detective with her own 3-book series, this one originally out from Pinnacle in 2002. A young woman is found, brutally murdered and left on gruesome display in the “safety” of her own home. The atrocity kicks off an investigation into a bizarre string of increasingly disturbing murders, all believed to be perpetrated by someone of unprecedented savagery and cunning. As the city’s panic rises, civil attorney Teddy Mack is thrown headlong into the grisly homicide case—and into a world of dirty politics and corrupt justice, where deceptions are as deadly as a killer’s twisted secrets. Now, another woman is about to meet the same horrific fate as the others. To end a madman’s reign, Teddy must enter his maze—a place of unimaginable terror and shocking revelations. With his second thriller, L.A. Times bestselling author, Robert Ellis, delivers an explosive read with full-blown characters caught in a world stacked with twists and turns and an emotional intensity that burns white-hot. Free again from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon: In a Spider's Web by Michael Lister (SYKM), an introductory short story to his Jimmy Riley Soldier Mystery series starring a one-armed ex-cop turned PI in 1940s Florida. We've previously received the 1st-in-series novel as a freebie in recent months. Walk the mean streets of wartime Panama City with Jimmy "Soldier" Riley, a wounded, woman-haunted knight errant in this short story by Michael Lister that introduces readers to the new noir series. |

Found on Google Play, looks to be price matched elsewhere.
Most of Elmore Leonard's books has their price lowered to under $4 and Be Cool, Djibouti, Freaky Deaky, The Big Bounce, Mr. Paradise and Comfort to the Enemy are all $1.99 Last edited by AwfulWaffle; 12-17-2014 at 06:42 PM. |

Open Road is having a Christmas Mysteries sale. I think I saw somewhere that it was good through 12/31, but now I can't find where I think I saw it, so that's a bit uncertain.
Link is here: http://www.openroadmedia.com/christmasmysteries This provides access to various retailers - when you click on the little red "Buy the Ebook" button under each book, you get a pull-down to choose your retailer. Or, you can just search directly for the titles on your preferred retailer's website yourself. The Open Road sale page doesn't list any prices, but I spot checked a few in Kobo Canada (since PERKOPOLIS still works on Open Road titles there for 40% off) and the books seem to range from $1.99 to $3.99 there. The books in the sale are: Charlotte MacLeod: Rest You Merry, Murder Goes Mumming, The Convivial Codfish Nero Blanc: Crossworder's Delight, Wrapped Up in Crosswords, Crossworder's Holiday, Crossworder's Gift Jane Haddam: Not a Creature Was Stirring, A Stillness in Bethlehem William Bernhardt: The Midnight before Christmas Jane Langton: The Shortest Day, The Memorial Hall Murder Lawrence Sanders: The Fourth Deadly Sin Frederick Forsyth: The Shepherd Ellery Queen: The Egyptian Cross Mystery Gillian White: The Sleeper Karl Harter: Winter of Frozen Dreams John Harvey: Cold Light Michael Allegretto: Night of Reunion Mignon G. Eberhardt: Postmark Murder Loren D. Estleman: The Glass Highway J. Robert Janes: Salamander Andrew Klavan: The Scarred Man Stuart Palmer: Omit Flowers William L DeAndrea: Killed on the Ice |

Free from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon:
Legend of the Loch by Alanna Knight (SYKM), a standalone Gothic suspense thriller, possibly with romantic elements but the author has filed this purely under the thriller categories and regularly writes historical amateur sleuth mysteries and police procedurals so YMMV, originally out from Belmont in 1970. Beth Ryan goes to the Highlands to sell her inherited estate to find all that remains is a Victorian shooting lodge occupied by Calum MacRaven, local doctor and impoverished Laird of Glenrannoch - a whirlwind romance ensues, or so it seems. They marry but Beth has suspicions regarding a family feud, an abandoned baby and his ex-mistress Morven plus his ward Rona. Is the monster in the Loch, who allegedly drowned Calum’s first wife, on the rampage again and will Beth learn the truth too late? Her greatest problem becomes staying alive. |

Murder Will Out by Alison Joseph
The first in a new series of murder mysteries by Alison Joseph, in which famous authoress Agatha Christie takes time out from writing to investigate real crimes. 1923. The Great War is over, but the ghosts of the dead still linger. Agatha Christie was one of the lucky ones - her husband returned from the conflict - and for her, and her local neighbours, life has resumed. Agatha is beginning to gain some notoriety for her crime writing and she is busy working on her latest novel. But then her neighbour tells her there has been a real `murder at the vicarage' - a young man, Cecil Coates, has been poisoned, and due to Christie's expertise in the crime genre, the neighbourhood wants her to investigate. At first Agatha is reluctant to get involved. After all, she is a writer, not a detective. But then Robert Sayer, godson of her neighbour, and one of the main suspects in the case, appeals to her directly for help, and she finds herself being drawn in... What secrets and lies are lying beneath the village's tranquil exterior? Can Agatha Christie use her imagination to draw the murderer out? Alison Joseph is a London-based crime writer and radio dramatist. She is the author of the series of novels featuring Sister Agnes, a contemporary detective nun based in South London, and has written numerous plays for radio, including the adaptations of Simenon's Inspector Maigret series broadcast on BBC Radio 4. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QHRBQX0/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00QHRBQX0/ http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00QHRBQX0/ |

Free from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon:
Blood Sacrifice by Michael Lister (SYKM), 5th in his John Jordan series of mystery/crime thrillers starring a Florida prison chaplain, for which we've previously received prior installments upthread. Following a particularly brutal and costly case, John Jordan goes to a secluded retreat center and encounters one of the most bewildering and haunting cases of his career—the suspicious death of a young woman undergoing an exorcism. Free again from the author('s republishing consortium) via KDP Select @ Amazon: Crooked Man by Tony Dunbar (SYKM), 1st in his Edgar & Anthony-nominated series of humorous mysteries starring Tubby Dubonnet, a foodie lawyer in New Orleans, originally out from Putnam in 1994. If a gym bag of cash fell into your hands, what would you do to keep it? A simple man with a refined palate, maverick New Orleans lawyer Tubby Dubonnet has a penchant for fishing, Old Fashioneds, off-track betting, and fighting evil while passing a good time. His clients are all renegades from the asylum (aka Orleans Parish), including a transvestite entertainer, a buxom deadbeat blonde, a doctor who refers his own patients to a malpractice lawyer, and a Mardi Gras reveler who drives a float shaped like a giant crawfish pot. He also has his hands full with an ex-wife and three teenage daughters, who are experts in the art of wrapping Tubby around their little fingers. And somehow, between work and family, Tubby finds time to sample the highs and lows of idiosyncratic Crescent City cuisine, from trout meuniere amandine and French roast coffee with chicory to shrimp po-boys and homemade pecan pralines. Tubby's new client is Darryl Alvarez, the manager of a local nightclub who's been caught unloading marijuana from a shrimp boat. At their first meeting, Darryl entrusts Tubby with an ordinary-looking blue gym bag. But after Darryl's unfortunate demise, Tubby realizes he must tighten his grasp on the gym bag -- and its million-dollar contents. Tubby can’t just give up the cash. But if he gets caught, he’ll be in jail. And if the wrong people catch him, he’ll wish he was. |
