I've toyed with light, color settings (no night mode, sorry, too similar to an standard term - so work), a lot of things and, in the end, I get eye strain, something which doesn't happen with the e-ink.

Blossom, I'll try but I don't know if it will help. I'm in front of a computer screen around 10/12 hours a day. After that, the only thing my poor eyes can bear is a e-ink screen. But I'll give it a try.

I do think alot of tablets aren't eye friendly that why I love my Nexus 7 and it never leaves my side.

I found for computer screens I have to keep the brightness and contrast down too. I have problems with bright light like sun light or florescent light. My eyes will start to flicker and I can't see a thing.

I believe there are a few blue filters in the Amazon App Store, as well as Screen Dim. If you want to side load Twilight, it is available from 1 Mobile.

I hope you find something that helps.

I've got to say I love the Nexus as well. I don't get eyestrain with it the way I do if I read on my PC or my phone (or my dad's weird tablet). I love the fact I can read at night without my bedside lamp on.

I use the Mantano app which allows me to adjust the lighting by swiping up or down on the left side of the screen. I also have the Screen Filter app installed, though I haven't really used that one.

Plus using background colors rather than a white background helps.

It's called age, you need to go get your eyes examined, you probably need glasses now.

I firmly believe that most peoples eyestrain problems could be resolved by getting glasses, but most would rather live in denial rather than accept with grace that they are getting older and the eyes are not what they used to be.

True, but I already have contacts (and glasses though I don't wear them at the same time). I cannot see but a foot or so in front of me without them. I've had to wear corrective lenses since I was in high school. But reading on a computer or my phone gives me a headache. Thankfully the Sony (eInk) and Nexus don't.

I have had glasses since I was 2 years old. And a long period of hard contacts, until I could not tolerate them anymore. Now the fun with glasses and getting old-er. Although my near vision was never good, I am far sighted and I started needing bifocals much earlier then most.

I get you though with denial. Hubby is one of those. I wish I could drag him to the eye doctor. He never needed any glasses so he makes do. I cannot relate to that as I have always needed something. I get checked each year. I only have one good eye, I have to keep it going for reading.

Quote:
The only way to win is to score…

With a reputation for fast moves on the gridiron and even faster moves off the field, Shane Devlin was a player in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, his bad-boy persona has made him a risky prospect as a quarterback, and only the Baltimore Blaze are willing to give him a chance. And he’s about to take a hit he never expected.

Working for the Blaze, Carly March knows too well how jocks think—and what they think with—so she’s always made a point of keeping them at arm’s length. But when she shares a kiss with the devilishly handsome Shane, she finds it hard to play by her own rules—and even harder to resist him.

Can a football hero and a business-minded beauty take it all the way? Or will their mutual attraction cost them the big game?

I already have glasses, as do many people with eyestrain. A lot of us work on computers all day and there is only so much of this our eyes can take.

I am deciding whether to buy the PW (3G) or the Nexus 7 when I visit the US this summer. Those of you who read on the N7, is it readable in daylight (regular inside room lighting)? I have the Fire HD, and although fine at night, it is too reflective in daylight. I need a reader that works in all lighting, except sunshine, which I would never read in. I usually read on the K3 & DXG, very happily except for needing a light at night.

If you had to chose, just for reading, which would it be?

BTW - I bought a ton of books at the AR 50% rebate sale. Not sure why, but I seem to be in a Old West (mail order brides, outlaws, indians...+ some sci fi and paranormal) mood, so collected quite a few. Plus, found the latest Delphine Dryden book, "The Principle of Desire." Now I have 22$ in credit, although I used the buy-10-get-one-free coupons (2 of them!) and some credit as well to buy books. Ended up with about 40 books and spent apx $65!

I also want to buy the set of "Yellowstone Romance Series" - books 2-5 - by Peggy Henderson (from Amazon $9.99). Book 1 was a freebie and I enjoyed it. But I'll wait awhile after this shopping spree

Totally readable in the daylight. I can read outside on it, too. But in direct sunlight I give the Sony the edge.

As much as I still love my Sony, the Nexus has become my primary reading device. I feel bad about the Kobo mini I won as I've only read maybe 3 or 4 books on it. It's a lovely size for sticking in my purse, but I find myself usually cramming my Nexus in my purse instead

If I had to choose between those two, I would choose the Nexus 7. Yes, the Fire HD screen is much shinier. The Nexus 7 has an awesome screen, although I did apply a matte black skin around the outside of the screen to eliminate the glare from the bezel. I'm sure most people don't do that.
