I believe you do. You get the lowest published price prior to publication. The recent trend has been to drop the price even more a few days/weeks after it becomes available. For example, I've seen most recent $7.99 releases on Amazon drop to $5.99 prior to release then a few days later it will bounce around $4.80 for a bit before going back to $5.99.

It really doesn't make much sense to pre-order these days unless you plan on reading the title immediately or there's a pre-order sale.

I agree. If you can wait until the afternoon of the release, you may save $2-$4.

Amazon's pricing on pre-orders still confuses me. For example I have the book From the Charred Remains (Lucy Campion Mysteries) by Susanna Calkins on pre-order. Yes I liked it! I got a review copy of the first book. It's historical mystery with romantic elements (I'm not sure if the romance will continue in future books but I hope so!) set during the Restoration period, with a super-smart maid who's an amateur sleuth. IMO the "read-alikes" for this series would be mysteries by Ariana Franklin and C.J. Sansom.

If you instead go to the Manage My Gift Cards page (or whatever they call it), you can see the balance without all the typing and looking up.

I was on the line about these as someone posted here I am trying to not buy series just the first one until I know I like the first one.

BUT after the crappy day I have I needed something to make me feel better so I grabbed them. I got woken up to my new neighbor screaming at the top of his lungs at his girlfriend all kinds of foul things and I am sure I heard him hurt her physically. Poor thing was crying her eyes out. I really need a good escape right now away from this mess. I'm going to nap then read a book and forget the ugliness I heard.

So it seems tax doesn't count toward ebook settle credit! How weird is that seeing we had to pay tax on Agency books.

You have to pay tax on the 10-for-1 freebies at ARe, too. Plus for my state Amazon now charges the tax on everything which is taxable. Much easier for them to do it than having to keep track for state tax forms.

Yeah I pay tax on all purchases at Amazon but what I meant was the Ebook credit doesn't cover taxes. You have to pay out of pocket for the tax which is weird seeing all Agency books we bought we had to pay taxes on. So why aren't the taxes covered?

Thanks I think I will put it on my wish list. I do like a good historical mystery particularly with a bit of romance.
