Oh, me too! I had surgery on both eyes when I was 8 or so, if memory serves.

I hope the new surgery goes well for you.

Thanks everyone for the comments and thoughts.

I'm so thankful for the public health system here (Canada / Ontario). The only thing I've had to pay for during this process have been the eye drops; everything else has been covered by the Health Care system.

The ease of seeing the required medical staff, both on emergency need (the initial weekend), and weekly (initially daily the first week) has been great. The only challenge has been the hospital is downtown, my wife doesn't drive, so trips to and from the appointments has been bus and subway, about 75 to 80 minutes each way.

Of course the day of surgery I think we'll UBER it both ways.

You can Uber it, but you'll need your wife with you. The usual rule is that they won't release you unless you have a responsible adult.

And yes, the entire process here is so much better. But those eye drops get OLD quickly. I'm down to only 4 drops -- 1xonce, 2xtwice, and 1xthrice a day. With still a couple of weeks of this.

It goes without saying that my wife will be coming along; she comes to all my eye injection appointments.

When I was getting laser retinal treatment I felt confident enough to take public transit to and from the clinic, and would even drive myself to a subway station which saved lots of time.

It's amusing in that my regular job is taking people to medical appointments including on several occasions cataract surgery, so I've experience of going up to a clinic to escort clients.

What's my Rant tonight?

Surveillance!

I was just on a Skype call with my daughter. While on the call I mentioned that I had just seen my first two spotted lanternfly nymphs of the season. I managed to swat one, but the other got away. I mentioned that I might need to buy a Bug-a-salt "gun" to take care of them.

As soon as the call ended I opened Facebook on my computer. Right at the top Amazon ran an ad for ... wait for it ...

Bingo!

Yeah, but look at it this way--in Ye Olden Days, before the advent of Manna from Heaven, aka clumping litter, it was much, much MUCH worse! LOL.

My big guy, the male Maine Coon, has done that and yes, it's on a travertine tile floor, (thank GOD) but at least now, 90% of the time, it's cleaned or damn near. And the clumps are easy to get, if it's not.

Shew!

Still, you have my devout sympathies.

Well I survived the surgery but (of course there's always a but) they found a tear in the retina. They did laser treatment on that and injected a gas bubble to hold things in place. This means I've got to keep my head down for some time to keep the bubble in place; sleep face down; no flying / driving; no showers or shaves.

Had a follow-up yesterday morning; surgeon was pleased with how things went. Still no vision in the eye

Next follow-up is next Wednesday morning.

That bubble will slowly shrink over the next week to 10 days but will drive you nuts for at least the first 5-6 days. (I was lucky, I didn't need to adjust head position or sleep position. A good thing because my shoulder won't let me sleep face down.)

Going by my experience, the bubble is going to block your vision for a longish while, i.e., weeks. And the days and nights when you’ve got to stay face-down are tedious and uncomfortable. I was allowed to shower, though. (When I kind of blew this off, I didn’t know you were getting the gas bubble. My third vitrectomy without bubble was a doddle, similar to the recovery from cataract surgery.) At least it’s behind you now.

Actually I had no idea beforehand that there would be a gas bubble / retina damage to be fixed! The initial problem had been infection in the eye with debris in the gel blocking vision, so for the last month any examination of the retina was a challenge, and the only possible observation seemed to be ultrasound.

I do have a head rest on order from amazon (appears to have a donut shaped hole that your face fits into) which should arrive by 10pm tonight.

I'm also beginning to see a tiny bit I can detect fingers moving in front of my face!

I can't stand it when I look for a book on Librarything using an isbn number from Kobo and NONE of the 6 or 7 sources LT has at its disposal can find the book. So I have to manually enter the book data.

Sometimes the littlest things give me the most annoyance

I hope your eye heals well.

My uncle has been having eye problems; during an operation to improve his sight some debris of an old lens went behind his eye, the doctor didn't think that would cause any problems but it did. He also had to keep his head down for a while recently. He'll get follow up surgery soon and then he has to wait and see if his vision will improve in that eye.

Good luck!

Well the pillow from amazon was a major failure; too uncomfortable by far.

On the bright side I'm starting to see in the right eye! Not only can I distinguish movement but I can also detect most things, but can't read or see details yet.

Next follow up this Wednesday (luckily a half hour later than this week).
