I also maintain a list on my blog, but of the free books, not the lower cost deals. I do get affiliate revenue from amazon (not that there is any on the free books). Of course, for those who know to click on the "new messages" icon, this thread is just as easy to use.

Two free books today (and polar opposite genres).
Daughter of Joy, by Kathleen Morgan, the first in her Brides of Culdee Creek series and from Christian publisher Revell. Book Description As the author of fifteen romance novels, all published in the general market, Kathleen Morgan has hooked thousands of romance fans with her vivid storytelling and the intense chemistry she creates between her characters. Recently, this gifted novelist committed herself to writing inspirational fiction, and Revell is honored to present Morgan's premier Christian romance novel, Daughter of Joy. Infused with all the spark and warmth of her previous novels, Morgan's new book, set in the late nineteenth century outside Colorado Springs, Colorado, also tells a compelling, perceptive tale of one woman's faith journey. In the wake of losing both her husband and young son, Abigail Stanton is searching for a way to make sense of her losses. She takes a job as housekeeper for Conor MacKay, a confusing, often volatile man who also carries deep pain-and secrets-in his inscrutable heart. Love, heartbreak, and triumph lie deep within the wilds of the Colorado highlands. Abigail Stanton's whole life was rooted in her faith, a faith she now clings to for survival. After losing her husband and young son, Abby sets out alone, bereft, and heartsick. And when she is led to Conor MacKay's doorstep, the very foundation of her belief starts to shift. As the volatile rancher's new housekeeper, Abby is supposed to keep his affairs--and his capricious little girl--in order. Abby feels anything but order, though, when she and Conor are together. Can love heal the wounds of the past? Or will Abby and Conor risk even greater losses than they have already suffered? The first in the Brides of Culdee Creek series, Daughter of Joy takes you on a journey of grief, intrigue, and redeeming love in the nineteenth-century Colorado highlands. Strings Attached, by Nick Nolan. Published by AmazonEncore, this will no doubt be a Kindle exclusive selection in the ebook world, at least for a while. Amazon is also releasing a second title he has written, Double Bound ($7.99), available for pre-order and delivery on May 25. Book Description Adolescence is a hazardous way of life for 17-year-old Jeremy Tyler; his father died in a mysterious accident when he was a child, and his mother has since descended into alcoholic hell and forced rehab; that's when he's sent from the Fresno slums of his childhood to the posh estate of his overbearing great aunt Katherine and her censorious husband - liberated from an economic prison, only to land in an emotional one - and is overwhelmed by the change. It's not easy for him to fit into the upper crust, particularly because he's trying to hide how much he's attracted to other boys. Jeremy's story of breaking free from the strands of dishonesty, deceit, and self-doubt has its parallels to the tale of Pinocchio, but Nolan's queer take is totally contemporary: think the TV series The OC - girls with mean cheekbones, well-built guys with snotty attitudes, and Jeremy in the role of a queer Ryan Atwood. He's a good-looking kid, with a sleek swimmer's physique - and the swim team's champ is out to get him. He dates one of the smart-set girls in an attempt to keep his gay hormones at bay - but that doesn't do him much good. Nolan's debut novel is a kitchen sink of genres - coming of age, coming out, mystery, romance, erotica, even a dash of the supernatural - that add up to an impressive story about the passage from boyhood to manhood. |

I wonder how many (or how few) do like me and read both genres?

OK, I'll admit I got them both. Of course, I might not read both (but there are multiple people on my account).
Here's one for those who ignored the "free chapters" - the entire book is now free: Vicious, by Kevin O'Brien Book Description No Motive For more than two years, he held Seattle in a terror grip. A cold-blooded killer who abducted young mothers right in front of their sons and murdered them execution style. Then, as suddenly as the killings began, they seemed to stop. No Mercy Susan Blanchette is looking forward to a relaxing weekend getaway with her fiancé, Allen, and young son, Matthew. But something about the remote lake house doesn't feel right. A woman vanished from the area a year ago, and now Susan thinks she's spotted someone lurking around the property. And when Allen disappears, her fear grows. . . No Escape A psychopath has returned, ready to strike again. Someone who can't resist the urge to kill, who derives pleasure from others' pain, and who is drawing nearer to Susan as each minute of the weekend ticks by. But she's just one pawn at the heart of a killer's deadly game. A killer who is unrelenting, unstoppable, and absolutely vicious. . . |

Thanks. And let's just say I don't want anyone else to see them, if I'm showing off my Kindle... or surfing the site on my netbook at the coffee shop.

Free:
Democratizing Innovation, by Eric von Hippel Book Description Innovation is rapidly becoming democratized. Users, aided by improvements in computer and communications technology, increasingly can develop their own new products and services. These innovating users—both individuals and firms—often freely share their innovations with others, creating user-innovation communities and a rich intellectual commons. In Democratizing Innovation, Eric von Hippel looks closely at this emerging system of user-centered innovation. He explains why and when users find it profitable to develop new products and services for themselves, and why it often pays users to reveal their innovations freely for the use of all. The trend toward democratized innovation can be seen in software and information products—most notably in the free and open-source software movement—but also in physical products. Von Hippel's many examples of user innovation in action range from surgical equipment to surfboards to software security features. He shows that product and service development is concentrated among "lead users," who are ahead on marketplace trends and whose innovations are often commercially attractive. Von Hippel argues that manufacturers should redesign their innovation processes and that they should systematically seek out innovations developed by users. He points to businesses—the custom semiconductor industry is one example—that have learned to assist user-innovators by providing them with toolkits for developing new products. User innovation has a positive impact on social welfare, and von Hippel proposes that government policies, including R&D subsidies and tax credits, should be realigned to eliminate biases against it. The goal of a democratized user-centered innovation system, says von Hippel, is well worth striving for. An electronic version of this book is available under a Creative Commons license. |

I too have screwed up my recommendation world since my Kindle. Especially at first when I downloaded books just because they were free. I've been more choosy since then. But still, I'll download a vaguely interesting free book that I would never have purchased, just because I might find it interesting and the chance will pass me by later.
I did accidentally download a romance novel once, (thankfully not a homosexual one) because I didn't see the cover. I can clear it from my recommendations, but I can't purge it from the list of books I now own on the Kindle page. |
