They have an answer to every question, they just often choose not to divulge it. "I don't know" wouldn't make things worse.

Little questions like, "Have you received the Cybook you told me to send to you?", "Can you tell me when you think the repair will be finished?", "Can you tell me the tracking code when you post it back?"

I ended up having to get a re-delivery because I didn't know the reader was being sent. If I'd have had a simple, "It's on its way - here's the tracking number" I could have arranged to have worked from home.

Having said that, they fixed the faulty chip without complaint.

Really ?
If bookeen had said "I don't know", we wouldn't be whining about "promised" stuff, or delayed update, because we wouldn't know a think about it.

Bookeen don't send mail in some case, the transporter does. Mails like this are sometime labeled as spam too.

So you had to phone them to get an answer to an email. Not what I would call good service. ANd I am not going to phone to France from Sweden especially when I suspect that they do not like to talk English.

I know how my spam filter works and I got mail from neither Bookeen or FedEx. Obviously they don't need to let me know anything when they're repairing a faulty device, but it would be useful to know I hadn't lost anything.

At least it was repaired under warranty, which is all that matters, even if they didn't keep in touch.

FedEx should have sent you the mail then. While i agree it would be nive for bookeen to send a mail too, FedEx is to blame there.

More to make sure my mail was recived. It lacks an auto-responce. Got the exepted responce (that they had to catch up the week end's mail).
True, phoning them would be harder from out of france. That was part of the reason i chose bookeen.

Opus seams to hold longer. But not sure about it, as i didn't tested that fully. Both gen 3 and opus hold longer than I need anyway. I only problem i had with baterry was forgetting to recharge, because it last a real long time.
I never had the "working" version, and without your remarks, I would never have thought anything wrong with it.
I don't know how you can drain the battery that fast. Unless you need the reader to work and it's on most of the day.

I disagree. FedEx's contract is with the sender so in the same way that the British Post Office didn't have to notify Bookeen I was sending them my Cybook, FedEx didn't have to let me know they were doing a job for Bookeen. In fact, I'd be unhappy if Bookeen just gave my email address away for no reason other than to get out of keeping in touch over the entire warranty repair.

I've just read that Pocketbook has some issues with bad responding key press... Seems to be the same thing Bookeen already "solved" - maybe it's a design flaw (Netronix) and better responding keys = less battery time!?

The battery life of the Opus is WAY longer than that of the Gen3, in my experience. I don't know how long it does last, but I do know that I have to read for about 10 days, for my usual 1-2h a day, before the battery meter shifts from "100%" down to "90%". In the same time, the Gen3 would probably be down to 60-70%.

Quite possible. They probably increased the polling frequency of the keys, with the side effect of increased CPU load and thus higher power consumption.

If the keys were interrupt-driven, rather than polled, would you expect the significant problem of missed key-presses that the early Gen3 firmware had to have occurred? It sure looked as if they were being polled at too long an interval, and that they fixed it by reducing the poll interval at the expense of a shorter battery life!

I believe that is true and the reason why they can not fix the problem with the shorter battery time.

Since the boot time is so long and I read whenever I get the chance I keep my Cybook on all the time.
