Hi all, I am Scribd envious. I looks to me there isn't a way to use it on my lowly Nook Touch. https://www2.mobileread.com/i/icons/icon8.gif Is that correct? Happy Reading! Joan

You need a Android or iOS device to use their app but you can read from any computer browser as well. I have the app installed on my Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD and my Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2.

I just checked out the collection on Scribd and it is really good--if only it didn't limit me to reading on my phone or laptop as I don't have a tablet...neither the phone or laptop are all that pleasant ways for me to read a bunch of books (as opposed to a book every now and then), alas.

Quote:
Chance Spencer, doesn't steal. Not anymore.
Suddenly suspected of stealing half a million dollars of original paintings, Chance can't afford to have the FBI delve too closely into his covert past. When one agent in particular endeavors to put him behind bars, Chance coerces the real thief's daughter, Sarah O'Sullivan, into helping him flush her wily father out of hiding. Both want him found. Sarah, to warn her father of Chance's intent to turn him over to the FBI. Chance, to hopefully catch the thief red-handed. To succeed in capturing the thief Chance must keep Sarah close to him. But his plan quickly deteriorates when the stakes for his freedom soar. How can he ruthlessly use the woman with whom he's falling in love?

Sarah O'Sullivan is also looking for her father, but for different reasons. With her best friend getting married, Sarah realizes she's alone in the world and needs her family. That would be her father, who has been absent most of her boarding-school life. When Chance arrives in New York to inform her he's going after her father, Sarah follows him to Canada, hoping to warn him before Chance or the FBI find him. But living in close proximity with Chance, Sarah soon starts falling in love with him. She struggles with her divided loyalties as the FBI and the local police close in for an arrest. Someone has to be arrested for the theft. Chance or her father?

Quote:
It was supposed to be one night of passion - that turned into a crazy, unforgettable month. Until Serena McGregor finally walked away from undercover FBI agent Nick DeMarco. Six months later, her elusive scent still haunting him, Nick is ready to risk his career to prove Serena is innocent of a five million dollar heist.

As an archivist, Serena likes tidy things, filed away in an orderly fashion. Too bad the only category Nick falls under is a heartache waiting to happen. He’s too much. Too passionate, too beautiful, and he definitely won’t stick around after he discovers all her secrets. But as a suspect in the robbery of the century, Serena can’t refuse his help. That’s not all she can’t refuse. Will this mismatched couple discover they have more in common than they imagine?

I don't know this was my first book by her. They don't have that one in ebook. I'd love to see her backlist released.

You need a tablet. I think everyone should have one whether it be Apple or Android. I couldn't live without mine. Okay so it like having a mini computer attached at the hip but I use to sit at the PC all the time and not I have my tablet I just use that most of the time instead. They have changed in the last year. They are light weight, thin as a ereader and pleasant to hold. I can do most of the things on my tablet that I do on my computer. It's wonderful!

I (of course) agree! The Nook HD can usually be found for a low price and it is a high quality tablet. Don't be tempted to get some "new" old tech for $50, though. Stick with a brand that is well known. The Hisense Sero Pro is supposed to be good (only the Pro, though). And the Nexus 7 - 2013 model - is the top of the line, IMO. Or if you like Apple, the ipad Mini retina is what I would get.

The Kindle Fire (HD 2013 or 2012) is a fine, if boring, tablet, as well.

If you get a good tablet, you won't know how you lived without one! I still remember my awe at the first one I got, which was a refurb Nook Color.

Quite right the cheap tablets have quality of screen problems and they are made like laptop screens with horrible view angles. You want a tablet you can see at any angle. My Nexus 7 is my baby and I love it. It doesn't suffer from any of these problems.

lol, while I totally disagree! I prefer not to read books on my computer, so for me reading on our tablet is not much different - only if I'm desperate! I'm an eInk reader all the way. 90% of our tablet use is games... and mostly played by the kid. She couldn't live without it, but the hubby and I definitely could.

I was getting by fine with both my Kindle PW and iPhone, thinking there is nothing I need a tablet for Still isn't, except Scribd. Obviously it is Scribd that needs to change. I don't know if I can justify $130 for a tablet plus $8.99/month to get unlimited ebooks when I already have 1000 I haven't read on my Calibre. I don't really have much other use for a tablet as I don't play games. I watch movies on the TV and I already have several iPods, and am rarely far from a computer. Of course, I could ask my husband to get me one for Christmas...

I don't agree. I have an iPad retina, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (8"). For reading emails, forums or news it's quite good, better than a computer, but for reading a novel... not at all.

Where Wildflowers Bloom by Ann Shorey is free today at Amazon. It is a Christian Romance published January 2012

Quote:
The War Between the States stole a father and brother from Faith Lindberg-- as well as Royal Baxter, the man she wanted to marry. With only her grandfather left, she dreams of leaving Noble Springs, Missouri, and traveling west to Oregon to start a new life, away from the memories that haunt her. But first she must convince her grandfather to sell the family's mercantile and leave a town their family has called home for generations.

When Royal Baxter suddenly returns to town, Faith allows herself to hope that her dreams might come true. Does he truly love her? Or could another man claim her heart? Will she find that following her dreams may not mean leaving home after all?

The characters in Where Wildflowers Bloom jump off the page and into the reader's heart. Author Ann Shorey infuses her characters with the virtues and quirks that bring them fully alive as they search for contentment and love.
