No trouble sleeping, yet. In fact, I slept really well, better than in a long time. I just took my second pill with a lot of water and some rice crackers. I'll get some yogurt tomorrow, when I go to the supermarket.

My recollection from when I had the short course of prednisone (it was one of those graduated packs where you take a bunch the first day, then gradually decreasing amounts over several more days) was that I was so happy to be able to breathe easily I didn't notice any side effects!
I've heard tonsil removal as an adult is not fun. But a lifetime of ongoing throat problems wouldn't be good either. |

My venting for today is that ADE doesn't delete the files from the filesystem when you remove an expired book from your library -- it leaves behind a bunch of garbage that I have to manually clean up, every single time. I have to manually find the manifest file, the thumbnail file, and the book file. Why isn't that an option when removing? It gives me a big long wordy dialog telling me that it's going to leave garbage behind, so why doesn't it have a checkbox allowing me to say "clean up the files", which should be checked by default -- why would I ever want to keep behind a bunch of files that I cannot use?

I never had problems with predenisone but it is a miricle drug when you have bronchitis, pnemonia or toncilitis. You feel like a million bucks. Also I think you are to take it in the morning so not to affect sleep

It's great when you have small dosages over a short course. I end up with high dosages over a longer course - causes lots of problems. But, what do you do? BTW, any amount of steroids can mess up your blood sugar, so be aware of that if you are diabetic. General practioners will blame your diet (I was low carbing), but the endo is perfectly aware of this problem.

A miracle when you have a really bad gout attack as well! And since I wasn't going to get any sleep anyway, better to get it started on the problem.

I'm halfway through the course, so far so good. It's still a bit swollen, but the irritation is mostly gone. Only at night there might be some slight irritation, but it's very slight compared to what it was before. Hopefully the swelling will start going down soon.

Just three more days of Prednison. The side effects started to slowly come on. I've been starting to feel down. I also started to clamp my jaw during sleep, especially the left side is sore. I do this when I'm stressed, but I'm not particularly stressed right now. At least the heart burn/acid reflux hasn't gotten worse and it's easily controlled.
It's working, but not as good as I hoped. My throat isn't dry anymore and most of the irritation is gone, too. But it's still a bit swollen and red or the left side, though it does like like it improved a little bit, and where it's swollen it's still sensitive. I'll give it until Monday, if it hasn't improved (much) I'm going to call the doctor again. Hopefully when the course if over it won't get worse again. |

OK, a few FWPs I need to vent and rant about:
1. To the owner of the quartz counter top fabricator who, when the counter top that they made and installed spontaneously cracked within the one-year warranty, told me they would not honor their warranty because "if we had to replace a counter-top every time they cracked, we'd be bankrupt," I say "F-you, B--ch, if that many of your installs fail, you deserve bankruptcy. You NEED to go out of business." 2. On the subject of kitchens, whoever decided that breakable glass was a good material to make into a cook top? "Do not scratch" "Do not spill hot sugar" "Do not slide heavy objects" Like, you know, pots and pans full of food. For God's sake people, it's a COOK TOP. For COOKING ON! Why do we accept this garbage? We need more durable electric cook top options, something better than those old coils, for people who can't have gas but still ACTUALLY USE THEIR KITCHEN FOR COOKING. Save the glass and ceramic for New Yorkers who use their oven for storage and they cook top as extra desk space. (IIUC, induction cook tops are covered in the same glass/ceramic). 3. Dear business people: when you tell a client you'll call back with follow up info, CALL BACK WITH FOLLOW UP INFO. If you CANNOT remember to do so (as opposed to just intentionally lying and making empty promises) I understand that we have various forms of technology available to help you remember stuff. Tech like "paper and pencil" or "Post-It notes," not to mention all the little computers around for helping out. 4. LED light bulbs that are so poorly made that they die within a year or two are NOT better for the environment, or your pocketbook. The energy cost of manufacturing them and disposing of them, not to mention the (re)purchase prices, negates any operational savings of using them if they don't last for many years, like they are supposed to. We need to stand up against this garbage! Who's with me!? Stand up! March!! Protest!!! Apparently it's OK to riot and burn down business if you're protesting! Oh, that brings me to number 5....no I'll leave that rant for the folks in P&R. Last edited by ApK; 08-04-2020 at 05:15 PM. |

WRT #1, you should, by all means, take them to small claims court, and/or report them to that paragon of consumer protection, the BBB. The one might do some good by forcing them to actually honour their warranty, the other almost certainly won't.
On the rest? You're fighting a losing battle against the incompetence of the normal. Oh, I agree, on all of the above. But gave up fighting as bad for my blood pressure. But the countertop installer? Oh, yeah. Go after them. Oh, and DO write a letter to the quartz countertop manufacturer. They have a good deal of leverage if they choose to exert it. |

Regarding the counter top I think it warrants a complaint as CRussel said, unfortunately it is common for the companies to discard responsibilities but if you force the issue and don’t give up when you are right they have to honor their responsibilities. And I would say that if they advertise the warranty they have to honor it. I’m known by family and friends has being a “complainer” if something is not done wright, or the products has a problem I complain and I don’t give up, usually it gets resolved, but everything takes time and work, I think it is so people get annoyed and give up. My cooktop is going on 3 years old and although I’m very careful with it, it has some scratches and in some places has lost the shine, it looks like they polished it with something and that has since been removed, it looks like it is always dirty funnily enough it lost the shine after the 2 year mark of the warranty. About people not following trough that is something I had to endure a lot when renovating the house, and what irks me is that the same people that said they would later send me the quote for x job and didn’t are the same complaining that the economy is bad and that they have no work, what they don’t have is the will to work. I contacted at least 6 companies to repair our doors and only one presented a quote, a very high quote, and after several months we ended doing it ourselves. The same for the windows, the company that did the 1st floor keep postponing the visit for the measures of the ground floor and I had to look for another company, they did the job but took 6 months with me constantly calling and prodding, they were so disorganized that they charged me a lot less than the quote. |

My V&R is threefold. My town just passed an emergency mask mandate, in advance of the university students starting to return to the dorms next week (a lot of the off-campus kids are already in town, alas). That’s not a rant, that’s a Hallelujah! Overdue, from the residents’ POV. The rant has to do with the posting on the town’s Facebook page announcing the new ordinance.
In the meantime, yay, masks! |

As someone who has a lot of stone (floors and countertops) and has had coffee tables, etc., over the years, the reality is--stone breaks. Granite breaks, limestone crumbles, Trav cracks and sadly, so too does Quartz. Now, with Quartz, depending on the product, if it's glued together (sound weird but many Quartz countertops or tabletops are created this way) you may be able to argue a manufacturing defect. But I think you'll find, if you read the fine print about the stone, that breakage due to natural causes (flaws in the stone, imperfections) isn't covered. At least, typically, it isn't. I found this out the hard way, nearly 30 years ago when a granite coffee table just split in two one day. Not trying to discourage the protesting and all that, but...just thought I'd mention it. I've put more Facebook friends on hold, and stopped following so many, I've lost count.
I'm on there to see pics of the grandkids, keep touch with some church info, see info from the son who lives in on the other side of the world. I follow a few collector groups for Heisey Glass, and Hall China, etc. I've no expectation of justice, reason, or dialog, from Facebook. I am sorrowed over the views of some people I'd have thought differently of, and that those "opinions" are trotted out so readily on such a platform. I'm even more dismayed when "reasonable" people screech and whinge over the latest conspiracy theories, and how many people complain about how Social Media handles various posts. We have one family member who shares constantly to Facebook from Twitter. The vitriol is astonishing. The nastiness defies description. That a 66 year old "educated" woman sees nothing wrong in this makes me sad. We have rarely agreed on politics or financial matters, but the views she espouses now are mind boggling. Most of the family have stopped reading her posts and no longer reply to her. It is frightening. She has taken paranoia to a new level. |
