I'm feeling very frustrated with my doctor's office. I called yesterday to make an appointment with my doctor, the assistant suggested a phone consultation and I agreed. The doctor would call me between 9 and 10 am.
By 9.45 I started doubting if the doctor was going to call, or I had to call in. Gave it another ten minutes before calling them. He had tried to call, but no one answered. When I asked which phone number he used the assistant recited a landline number we had cancelled over a decade ago. When that number was cancelled I called to get it changed and since then at at least half a dozen occasions I tried to get it changed to our other landline number. The last time was in February, when I also told them to use my mobile phone number as main number. They did (finally) have the correct mobile phone number and I had the assistant remove the landline number altogether (hopefully). Luckily the doctor still had an opening at 10.45 for a phone consult. After that I'll send them an email asking them to check my details, again. |

I've been having an irritated throat for months now. First I thought it was because it was healing after having coughed a lot for five or six weeks, then I started taking hay fever meds and it got worse, but I know that happens with those meds. But after two and a half weeks of no more hay fever meds there's only been a slight improvement. The doctor thinks it's either my tonsils or allergies. I suspect the former, since it doesn't seem logic that with allergies only one side of my throat is affected. After some discussion he decided that a course of prednisone is the was to go. When I got home from the pharmacy I took one and now, a couple of hours later there seems to be slight improvement. But that might just be wishful thinking. It's a ten day course so I'll just wait and see and keep my fingers crossed it'll do the job. |

Now is NOT a good time to be coughing. ![]() Many years ago, my doctor gave me a shot of Kenalog, a steroid. I had some major side effects, but my allergies didn't bother me for months. I've always wished I could take it again. |

I still have a landline, primarily in case of emergency or in case my elderly mother calls me. No matter how many times I tell doctors' offices that my cell number is the best number to call, some of them still call the landline and leave a message while I'm at work, so I don't get it until I get home after office hours are over.
Rumpel, you've had so many issues that maybe it will indeed turn out to be your tonsils. Either that or a lingering sinus infection. At least the prednisone will clear up any stuffiness. A long time ago I had a short course of it and that was the most clear my head has ever been! I do have chronic allergies but my main symptoms are a stuffy nose and occasional postnasal drip. Other symptoms come and go during certain times of the year when outdoor allergens are more abundant. |

So far no high, just a flare up of acid reflux, which will be easily remedied, I hope. But my throat is definitely better. If I have acid reflux for ten days and get rid of the throat infecting it's a good trade-off IMHO. Quote:
Luckily I don't have any stuffiness since my hay fever went away. Just the irritated throat. I've been looking into tonsil problems today and realized they've been causing problems every time I get a cold. I always thought I would always get a throat infection when getting a cold, but I think it's my tonsils. When the pandemic is over I might have a talk with my doctor to see if removing them is a good idea. When I was young it was pretty standard for kids getting their tonsils taking out, as was getting ear tubes inserted. Both things were suggested for me, but my mother didn't want to. I'm glad I didn't get the ear tubes, but I now wish I did have my tonsils taken out. |

I'm not sure a "high" was meant; I've felt incredibly energetic when on prednisone. (I think that's what "jacked" translates to

I worded it wrong. I read it could be one of the side effects. No luck so far (my rooms could use a good cleaning). Just the reflus and a bitter taste in my mouth (need to take the pill with more water and something to eat tomorrow morning).

Yea, I didn't mean "high." Even my elderly mom felt invigorated 2 years ago when she was put on prednisone to help clear up lasting congestion after pneumonia. She is closing in on 89 come November.
My husband ends up on prednisone every 18 months or so, and always enjoys the first few days, before the heartburn sets in. After what happened to me from the Kenalog, I won't take anything like it again. Not a fan of prescription jockeys because of my experience with a couple of prescribed drugs. |

Take it with yogurt - it will help with the reflux and the taste.
