That said, the Nook's restrictions are a deal breaker for me given one of my primary uses is sideloaded content. I use a PW3 (Manga 32GB, jailbroken) and a Glo HD (64GB).

i agree with all of this which trust me doesn't happen that often i have the Amazon Kindle 8th generation i only bought it because it was so cheap.

i do like the screen it's nice and clear but it spends most of it's time being switched off.

i much much preferred my old Kindle 4 which i used all of the time precisely because it had page turn buttons. to be honest i regret getting rid of it.

thank you for taking a very very small part of my comment completely out of context. for those of you who maybe interested post 293 is the full unedited version and was made in reply to my initial post 289.

post 289 was very much on topic.

the Kobo Clara HD (minus the waterproofing) is just the slightly smaller version of the H2O Edition 2. in fact the Clara HD, H2O ED2 and KA1 are all basically the same device in 3 different sizes.

the KA1 being the only one that as overdrive (i wonder if the KA1 being the most expensive of them as anything to do with it?)

edit. innovation is a wonderful thing maybe Kobo will try it sometime.

thank you i'm always memorable, agree or not or like or not

Seller in Japan Bic Camera says 157 × 111 × 8.3 mm
also 6,000 books or around 150 comics
14,904 Yen (incl. tax)

Very strange indeed! I just checked Kobo Netherlands site and they say: ~ 159,6 x 110 x 8,35 mm.

I suppose we won't know for sure until we get the actual device (if we bother to measure [so precisely]).

I hold my Glo in a similar fashion, but I'm actually quite looking forward to the Clara's button on the bottom. Especially after 'Someone' sent us this through davidfor:

The button is nearly flush. If I balance the full weight of the device on my fingernail, (which is pushing up at the power button), it’s not enough to accidentally trigger. That said, I personally don’t find the button hard to press when I do want to.
Since the button won't be activated just by leaning the weight of the device on it there are no reading issues and it's now easier and more convenient / less hassle to quickly put the device to sleep. Currently I find it 'annoying' to have to move both hands to hold the device more sturdily and slide the slider (man, I'm lazy!) - just a finger movement and some more pressure seems so much handier. (Of course people with newer devices than the Glo already have an easier off-button compared to the 'old' slider, but still, moving a second hand to the back to press a button is soooo much more effort than what I'm expecting from the Clara HD )

((Is it Tuesday yet?))

The Nook Glowlight 3 can't compare to the Manga 32GB's memory, but the 1GB side-loaded restriction no longer exists. You'd now get its full (available) 6.5GBs for side-loading.

To whom it may concern: I'm living in a HUD subsidized retirement home in rural Arkansas, living entirely on social security which puts me way below the poverty level. They take us to Walmart every 2 weeks to shop. And I've been an avid reader since I was 4 years old.

So yes, shopping at Walmart or being poor has little to do with reading.

Also there are quite a few other avid readers in this retirement home. I'm not the only one by any means.

Not too long ago our little town of 3000 got a new bookstore, selling new books. It's a local store, not part of a chain, and it's pretty nice. It opened in a small shop and a few months later moved into a larger one. They seem to be thriving.

We also have a very active local library.

So to you prejudiced people, please do understand that even dummies like me and my neighbors love to read.

It's hard to judge an ereader based mainly on a feature list. Especially when it's not in your hands yet.

I have a Kobo Aura, the original model, as well as the Paperwhite 3 and the Glowlight 3. I agree that the Aura is easier to hold but it's a lot smaller than this one. Even so, the difference is very small. And the feature set while reading is superior on the Paperwhite. It's interface is graceful. The Kobo interface isn't bad but it's a bit clumsy.

In my rarely humble opinion these devices are all so good, each in it's own way, that it's never correct to insist one is better than the others. It's very much a matter of personal preference.

i may get the new Kobo. It's the first one that's tempted me in a while. I like having a lot of different ereaders and 6" or smaller is my preferred size. But I suspect the Paperwhite will remain my favorite.

That was changed with a firmware update. Sideloaded content now has access to the full storage capacity. That's been true for some time.

The other issue, that sideloaded content sometimes seems to get lost in the device is still a problem. I put 125 books on mine and it only finds 121 of them. If I connect it and use Windows Explorer I can see all of them but the Nook itself can't find the other four.

The problem is worse than it sounds. If I simply copy all 125 books to the Nook quite a few more get lost. I minimized it by copying them 5 and 10 books and then waiting for them to index before copying more.

It's easy enough to delete the ones the Nook doesn't find and copy them back individually, which solves this problem. Still it is an issue and for someone who keeps a lot of books on board it could be a real pain. I never have 125 books on any of my ereaders. I only put that many on board to test this. Usually I have about 30 to 50 books on board so it's a minor issue for me.
