I have the same problem with my mother. I don't think it's her fault cuz in the past I gave the reason to make her judge me or still think I'm a bad person. I feel a bit tired of trying to show how I have changed, so rn I'm trying to focus on myself and my girlfriend. We want to build a family, so I just want to be mentally health and be prepared to support her as she does to me.

It's just hard to put it in practice tho, cuz thoughts are really strong and they can put you down as fast as you started thinking. I kinda feel jealous of other people that are "normal", people that are not overthinking about small things from the past or overthinking about problems that do not even exist.

Well in 1997 after my divorce my stepmother would intercept the phone and not let me talk to my father and accuse me of things. My then husband was calling her and telling her bad things about me that never happened . Few times I talked to my dad he acted like he did not want to talk to me by being cold and rushing me off the phone so I stopped calling. Thought he would pick up the phone and call me. NOPE. He converted my bedroom to a nursery for HER grand kids thus giving me the picture I am never staying in MY HOUSE ever again. Not one single invite home for Christmas or any holiday started a few years earlier.

Same with my half sister. I moved away from home in 1988 and she never once called me or invited me back home to meet my niece and nephew. It is like I do not exist and I have no idea why my family would break my hart like this. I couldn't have done anything given I live like 1,300 miles away. I tried everything to fix this. I even invited myself to my sisters wedding. I got one of those wedding invites that was sent to be polite but not actually expecting me to show up. I was treated like a stranger like I never was part of the family ever. She once told me that she was jealous of me when I confronted her once.

My mother left the country and signed away all parental rights when i was like 10. Have not seen her since like 1981. I have a half-brother I have not seen since 1978. He had a falling out with mom and took off.

So the process of fixing this just caused more heartache. I just had to learn to accept it for my own mental health and well being

kladyz, Blas - I figured out at a fairly young age that for my parents I was persona-non-grata. But I must stress they gave me a good education and neither ever laid a finger on me - in anger or love. From the age of sixteen I scarcely saw them.

Soon after my mother died (late 1980s) I tried to track down the whereabouts of a large silver elephant my maternal grandparents had on their sideboard. As a kid I loved that elephant and my grandmother had 'promised it to me'. One of the people I visited was my mother's late brother's ex-wife - Nancy, who was then in her nineties. Through the years she and my mother had maintained contact. She had no idea what happened to the elephant, but she did tell me why my parents had shunned me, more or less from birth.

Apparently I was their second child, the first, a daughter, was still-born. I was born a year or so later. Mine was a difficult birth and resulted in my mother having a hysterectomy, consequently she couldn't have the daughter they both desperately hoped I'd be. This was 1940s London. My father had survived the Dunkirk evacuation -- just. A few months later their house had been bombed in the blitz, then in the month before I was born a V1 missile hit their 'new' house.

Did I forgive my parents? I never blamed them for anything so there was nothing to forgive. But I learnt the lesson, don't assume you know the full circumstances of a situation, I regret not having had the opportunity to say: "I understand." to my parents.

I never did find the elephant, if I had, I was hoping I could buy it. I still covet it; polishing it is the only childhood memory I truly cherish. Nancy remembered me loving it as a toddler, but she suspected it was sold when my grandmother moved into her son's house in her dying days. It was clear Nancy didn't have much time for his wife, her other sister-in-law.

I count myself lucky to have been spared the trials and travails of my parents' respective families - what little I know of both is quite alien.

Drove my son home from work last night and, when I parked, I noticed a mist in the headlight beams. I bent down and sniffed it and got the distinct scent of maple syrup.

Looks like I'll be starting the year with a visit to the mechanic to have the radiator checked.

Sorry to disappoint but they happened one right after the other! The concussion was from heavy items landing on my head after I'd gotten the mess cleaned up.

Personally, I was crushed when television went digital. I'm closer to New York but due to an accident of topology we pick up Philadelphia TV. Jeopardy is carried by channel 6 and, when it was analog, the audio was on the FM radio band. I used to be able to listen in the car. Now, nothing! I wuz robbed!
