I'm planning on buying a new PC late August or early September. My old PC is going to the store because that PC is getting very unstable. Yesterday the PC in the store was acting up again and I told my father that if he wanted to I could reinstall Windows on my computer so that it can go to the store. He told me that wasn't necessary. But he did tell me that because I regularly do work for the store on my computer the store's going to pay the VAT! Which is going to be about €200!

Today he asked me if €200 was a good price for my old computer and I, assuming he was talking about the VAT, said it was a good price. The he told me that that was on top of the VAT! Which means that within a couple of weeks I can order my PC!

Today I also found out that the computer I want is cheaper than I thought because I listed the hard drive as €166 instead of €66.

I'm going to order my new computer when I get home from house sitting.

I'm also thinking about a new computer, and a couple of times lately I've been really tempted. But there are rumors that Windows 8 will be released soon, possibly before the end of 2011, and I'd hate to get a system only to discover it wasn't ready to run it.

Right now? I just finished confirming to my credit card company that it was indeed me making 13 purchases at Amazon ..... the book sale ends today! 13 books for $32. Not bad at all!

I found that out a couple of days after I promised my dad that he could have my old computer to replace the one in the store in August. I'll probably buy Windows 8 when I need to reinstall Windows. I don't mind not having it on the day of release after it's been out for a while all the bugs and quirks have been worked out and you can find solutions for problems easier if it's been out a while.

Chris and I have been looking at upgrading my system as well, but I JUST reinstalled Windows 7 and my software, and as long as this system stays stable, I don't want to mess with it until Windows 8 comes out. And possibly not then, if Windows holds true to the "every other release being lousy" thing they've had going on the past several o/s upgrades.

My father still holds fast to XP, we have Vista on the computer in the livingroom and he's always grumbling about it and I even think he installed it on his notebook which came with Vista.

I've been raving about how smooth my computer runs on Windows 7 so he's curious. But I know he'll have a hard time adjusting. Mind you, most of the problems he runs into are caused by himself (if the anti-virus blocks a website it does so for a reason and you shouldn't switch it off).

I just dug out an old laptop I haven't used in 3-4 years. Inside the bag I found a small pocket external hard drive storage unit I'd forgotten about. 160G of photos, files, music, and other odds and ends! I'm currently uploading the contents of the drive into one of my newer externals so I can go exploring. The old one only runs USB 1, and these days that waaaay too slow for me to deal with! This is exciting!

Just got home from a road trip to Biloxi. Thoroughly enjoyed myself -- it's only the second time I've been in the area since Hurricane Katrina. Last time I was there it was about a year of so after the storm and everything was still ravaged. It was heartening on this trip to see how much progress has been made, although there are still a lot of empty lots. The most touching thing is along the waterfront where a lot of the snapped-off trees have been carved into sculptures. Very beautiful.

There is that to consider, and rumor is that Windows 8 (the codename—the actual name may differ) will be a major, major upgrade. That could translate to major problems, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
