Is there a way to check if renameotabin is working correctly? Or what happens if I click rename again?

Hmm, I have no idea how to do that. Which files should I look for, what is the script, where do I find it, and what is the file system, and how can I see if the rename happened? Sorry for all these questions!

I used WinterBreak (completed all steps) to jailbreak my Kindle Scribe. But koreader does not work with KUAL. Loading a book from Kindle Store also continues bringing up Mesquito (to run WinterBreak!).
So I did a factory reset but forgot to restore the binary using KUAL to Rename OTA Binaries->Restore!!!Now my Kindle Scribe got stuck at the setup (the tree) screen with error "Something went wrong. An error occurred while downloading the update. Try Again - Manage Wifi." Please help! I may have bricked my Kindle Scribe! Last edited by vivison; 01-14-2025 at 01:03 AM. |

Here's how I fixed this: - Turn on Airplane mode - Open Kindle Store - Enable WiFi when prompted - Click on the Winterbreak logo - Copy Update_KUAL*.bin to device - Settings > Update Your Kindle Essential redone the Winterbreak + Hotfix steps from the kindlemodding guide. KUAL worked again. |

Thanks. It did restart when I clicked rename during jailbreak, but the reason I am worrying about it now is because I accidentally clicked the run hotfix again after the jailbreak was finished instead of clicking KUAL, because the book changed literally under my finger as I was about to press on KUAL the order changed and I hit run hotfix instead, causing it to do another restart.

I hate it when the order changes like that. It "probably" won't hurt to click on rename again, but I really can't tell without studying the script. I also simply do not have time to walk you through how to check whether the OTA binaries have been renamed. |

It just has two `mv` commands. The first time you run it, it renames two files, but running it additional times shouldn't hurt anything at all. The files aren't going to get extra renamed or anything. I think trying to `mv` a file that doesn't exist will generate an error, but the error would only be cosmetic, and probably unseen at that.
