@bookmarkthis,
Yes, for your 5.16.2 use normal MRPI from Snapshots thread and normal (non-hf) KOReader (it says “PW2” in the name) |

BTW, when you said normal MRPI from Snapshots, did you mean the one here by Marek? https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaki...ing-kual-mrpi/ |

No, Marek’s is for hf.
You need one from here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=225030 Yes, abort. Your FW is not hf. Anything 5.16.3+ is hf (and yours is 5.16.2) |

Also, do I need to re-disable the OTA updates? I did it once already it a few hours ago. |

For what it may be worth, the MRPI from Marek's page works with both HF and non-HF Kindle firmware. To quote from that page: modified to support HF - rebuilt kindletool, libz and fbink + added hf detection - should also support any kindle normal mrpi does.

When I installed Marek's MRPI I think I saw some error messages on screen; when I ran this other MRPI I don't think I saw any errors. Is there an idiot-proof way to know if a jailbreak has been successful, and that everything's as it should be? Sorry for the dumb qs, I'm a novice.

Working Great on Kindle Oasis V10
Thank you very much guys, this is really awesome. I done the jailbreak and installed Koreader smoothly on my Kindle Oasis V10. latest FW
Just in case someone needs help with the files I used to install the jailbreak, everything was from the winterbreak site, but I will mentioned it: 1. WinterBreak.tar.gz 2. Update_hotfix_universal.bin 3. kual-mrinstaller-khf.tar.xz 4. Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin (which is Kual Coplate) 5. renameotabin folder 6. For Koreader I used koreader-kindlehf-v2024.11-131-g5cd9494ae_2025-01-10 Hope this will help anyone same as my device to jailbreak with no scary moments. ![]() |

Thank you for your reply. My understanding is that there is no need to update the new version as long as there is no problem in use. Well, then I'm not gonna mess around. I'm gonna use it.

Hi everyone,
I followed the steps to successfully jailbreak my Kindle Scribe 2022, and everything was working perfectly! However, I decided to flash an Android system onto it, and I think I messed up during the process. After copying the flash files to the Kindle, it started rebooting repeatedly and never managed to successfully install the Android system. Hoping to fix this, I attempted a factory reset by copying an empty file named DO_FACTORY_RESTORE to the Kindle. This action seems to have deleted all the jailbreak files and reset the system, leaving only these folders: .notebooks, audible, documents, fonts, screenshots, system, voice, and a file named "breakfast". At first, I felt a glimmer of hope when the device briefly asked me to log in to my Amazon account, but the login screen disappeared quickly, and the Kindle went back to its endless reboot loop. I’d really appreciate any help or advice on how to resolve this issue. Thanks so much in advance! |

However, I am still curious if there is any valid approach to flash an Android system to the Kindle? Much appreciated! |

Guys, anyone know why an firmware OTA could have occurred automatically following an Oasis Winterbreak with all steps completed, inc. renaming OTA binaries?
Had fw 15.16.2.4 installed, performed winterbreak -> hotfix -> kual / mrpi (marek) -> renamed OTA bins. All seemed good. In a few hours picked up the device and Kual no longer works, giving an error. Checked fw version - it's 5.17.1.0.3 ![]() ![]() Any clues? ![]() |
