Stella & I just spent the last hour or so stretched out on the floor by the deck door watching a line of thunderstorms moving through. Lots of thunder & lightning & torrential rain. Still pouring rain. Temps have dropped into the 70's F.
[got drowsy & discovered that a catnip stuffed flounder makes a pretty good pillow.]

A few years ago a man drowned (boating accident)that I thought was a real prick. He was quite rude to me a couple of days before he died and I thought good job, hope the crocs get him. I sure wish I could get rid of one of the two monster paintings in the back though (114 x 146 cm).

Right now I made my first hotel reservation for my Scottish holiday.

Just woke up, lying in bed, waiting for everyone else to rise and shine in this house.

Weekends go by so fast. A lot faster since I don't go to school or work. I just pursue hobbies all day long.

My brother-in-law asked me for some advice on camera, but I know next to nothing about these things so I, in turn, ask for your advice here...

To simplify, the users should be amateurs, this should be the first usable camera they use (and I would be borrowing this camera. I love photography.)

I had good experiences with Canon, plus the fact that Nikon stores in VN are nowhere to be seen and I don't want to be worried when it comes to warranty. So, Canon. I narrowed down to 2 options: which camera would you recommend: Canon EOS 500D ($670), or PowerShot G12 ($500)?

(the G12 has a preferable price, IMO. But if it doesn't work so well, my brother can afford T1i.)

Do you not have a Best Buy? Wolf Camera? Or Ritz Camera? I REALLY like my Nikon Coolpix. In general, Nikon has the best quality of output for your buck. They have a few lowend cameras that look like SLRs too, which is better than those bricks.

I've had Canon cameras before though. My 35mm is a Canon SLR.

If you have a specialty camera store nearby, I'd suggest going there. They can most likely do in-house repairs if anything does happen to your cameras. Some even lend one out if they have to ship them to the manufacturer.

My advice is to look at the Flickr Camera Finder first, because those cameras you've mentioned seem to be very high in price for someone who's just starting out.
