The micro-USB port on my new-to-me Aura One makes me nervous because it's much more secure in it's fit than my other e-readers. I've read cases of the USB port failing to connect after becoming loose and can envision how any torque applied with the cable secured could be problematic.
I'm jealous of those of you who don't become obsessive about your screens. From the very first e-reader I used, I've been neurotic about screen uniformity. Something about the high degree of attention on such a small surface area over long periods of time. It's the #1 factor that makes me hesitant about used e-readers. I don't have my new Sage setup with all the fonts and patches of my Libra H20 yet, so the only direct comparison I can make is with the same map from the same store-bought kepub, and the subsequent page using "Publisher default" for the font.
I took these photos with my camera not my phone, under the sort of lighting conditions that I read in >90% of the time, and even I can tell the 'color' difference between the two, with the devices both having exactly the same lighting settings. BUT, the big difference for me is the size. I bought the Sage because I was tempted by 8, and the jump from 7 was more than I expected. With font size, margins and line spacing the same, the extra screen real estate is awesome. WARNING: SOME VIEWERS MAY FIND THESE IMAGES DISTURBING They clearly show the plastic screen protector the devices arrive in still in place - in the case of the Libra, since October 2020 Last edited by Uncle Robin; 11-03-2021 at 09:25 PM. |

Yeah some people don’t understand that even though it’s “only” an inch bigger diagonally, which accounts for less in height and length than an inch, the space really adds up. Even if it’s just two to four lines of text per page, in some books (especially epic fantasy) that can mean a lot less “pages”.
Please note I’m not trying to start up a discussion on what defines a page. I’m using what a page is on a Kobo with current firmware. Any other opinions on what a page is are moot here since we have a frame of reference most if not all of us use (despite how vehemently some will yell should be otherwise). |

It really does. I love my Forma but after my disastrous Kobo Sage experience buying direct from Kobo (and god knows how long it will take them to sort out a return and refund) I’m not sure if I would risk another Sage, or any Kobo e-reader tbh, not right now anyway. It’s really put me off,

No cable issues with any reader I've owned, Nook, Sony, Kobo or Kindle. But it might be because I'm still using the cable I got with my Sony 950 many, many years ago, back in 2011. Sony built good readers AND good cables... Not a single substrate broken either between 1 Nook, 4 Sonys, 3 Kobos and 4 Kindles. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Anyone got their new Sage yet?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, not only do I read on the KA1, but I use it for testing ePubs. Which sometimes means I've plugged a cable into that port a dozen times or more in a single day. Still solid after 4 years. But, as I'm sure you know, devices vary, and I have heard of the port coming loose as well. I'm not sorry to have the Dropbox access on the Forma though! Here is my experience with Aura One: I bought it the day it came out, September 1, 2016. There was I don't remember what problem, so I exchanged it for a new one on September 8, 2016, then a 2nd new one on September 19, 2017. In October 2018, the port of this last one died.
Since the 2 years guarantee was over and I wanted the Forma, I went to Fnac to get that, bringing the old Aura One for recycling. The Fnac employee asked me what was wrong and went into his computer to see what he could do for me, and gave me a credit note for 66 €. By the way, I had to exchange that Forma less than a year after because it had developed battery problem. The new one was still going strong, but I gave it to a friend October 5, 2021, because he was thinking of buying one - he had a beloved Clara. As for myself, I was using it mostly for PDFs and the Elipsa was so much better for that, that I didn't use the Forma any more. |
