There are four season. The fourth has the weird little old lady. Although it wouldn't surprise me if the third season is skipped in some countries. It was okay, but not that memorable.

I guess I meant a 5th. Let's see, the Ripper one, the one with the tailors' murders, the Krays...and that last one, right? Yes, that sounds right.

Shtisel on Netflix. Despite it being about people living a different lifestyle than me, it's very relatable and sucked me in. Just about to finish the 1st season.

I liked Whitechapel but think I've only watched the first 1 or 2 seasons. I will check on where it is streaming now.

I watched Shtisel early in the pandemic (spring 2020) and binged it. Saw the most recent series a year ago.

I was watching a youtube NYC livestream (Yo_Ang) where she walked in Riverside Park and by the 91st Street Garden in there. This was where the last scene in You've Got Mail is. I had not watched it in years and found it on HBO Max. Watched one hour last night and the rest tonight. I'd seen it at the movies in the theater where in one scene Kathleen (Meg Ryan) and Frank (Greg Kinnear) go to the movies -- up the escalator and into the screening room. It was the Lincoln Square 13 on Broadway.

Soon I am going to watch When Harry Met Sally and Moonstruck (seen before).

I finished the series. A shame they didn't do more with the creepy old lady until the last episode. Where they set her up as the London version of Pennywise from Stephen King's It. I read that the actors would have loved to finish the story, but ITV wanted to "refresh the line-up".

One thing that stood out to me, watching all four seasons back to back is that the squad room started out as a normal office with normal lighting. By season four the office was really dark with blueish lighting. One of my pet peeves with crime shows is that offices and crime scenes are always dark.

Last night I watched a couple of films. Tonight I'm going to continue with Ozark I think. I've watched the first two seasons so far. I really love the series, but it's one I need to be in the mood for to appreciate it fully.

Hudson and Rex season 4 (based on the Italian/Austrian series Kommissar Rex), this version is set in Newfoundland.

One bit of trivia is that Diesel vom Burgimwald is a descendant of Reginald von Ravenhorst who played Rex in the original series.

One of the things that drives me nuts with crime shows of all kinds is, why doesn't anybody, ever, turn on the damn lights? As much as I liked William Peterson (Manhunter, CSI which became CSI:Vegas when the spinoffs happened), I mean, for the love of ****, turn on the damn lights instead of puttering around at crime scenes in the dark with a stupid wee flashlight. Sheesh.

I remember a colleague of mine, suggesting, all those years ago, that we take up a collection for them and send it to the show, offering to buy some watts for them, lol!

With regard to the dark/bluish lighting--I think the "corruption" and darkness of the squad room and whatsisname's room--the wee man who started out as the Ripper Tour Guide and resident consultant expert--was very deliberate and meant to convey the creepy factor from the demonic old lady. I mean, hell, they talked about it, like the mold, etc. IIRC.

Watched the first 2 episodes of Ten Percent - the BBC's remake (in English) of the hit French comedy Call My Agent, which stars the incomparable Camille Cottin. And it was dull, not funny at all. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the French series on Netflix (with subtitles) - it has a frenetic energy and laugh-out-loud jokes and situations, bordering on slapstick comedy. The ensemble cast mesh well with each other, but remain back-stabbing rivals in a cut-throat business.

The English version imported many/most of the plot lines from the French version (actress judged too old for a role, death of the agency head, etc.) and cast actors that resemble the French cast, with Lydia Leonard taking on Cottin's role. I don't know if watching the French series caused me to not like the English version - it's almost like watching reruns.

Although this is a bit O/T--that reminds me of how I felt about The Crimson Rivers, which was also released, in French, as Les Rivières pourpres. I saw it in English and liked it (not dubbed English, clearly filmed in English) and then I saw Les Rivières pourpres, patently filmed in French, with English Subtitles. (Lord, what a lot of work, filming all those scenes twice, at least, one in each language!) I still can't explain it, but I much preferred the latter over the former. Same exact lines, dialogue, scenes, but I preferred the French version. For no reason that I can properly elucidate.

Always thought the ending was a bit dim, but other than that, I enjoyed it in both languages. One of them, I believe, is currently playing on Amazon Prime. I may take a minute and watch it!

Catching up with the sixth and final series of 'Better Call Saul'. If you liked Breaking Bad this is almost compulsory! But I have friends who loved BB and yet they cannot get along with BCS!

I watched all six episodes of Anatomy of a Scandal on Netflix Sunday evening. Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey's Mary) was a prosecuting attorney in it. Rupert Friend and Sienna Miller are the lead characters. Starts out as an affair problem and then a rape.

This weekend I also watched the first 3 episodes of The Staircase (Colin Firth) on HBO Max and the season finale of Call the Midwife. I have not seen the Staircase documentary on Netflix yet.

I can’t find any series that I’m in the mood for. Which means it’s time to watch some movies. Time to use my randomiser app again.

God, I know that feeling! It's irritating to hae hundreds of "channels" or whatever we're calling them these days, paying some, if not a lot, of money for choice and 95% of what's out there isn't fresh content but, let's face it, reruns for which we are now privileged to pay. I mean, man, talk about being sold a bill of goods.

Yeah, sure, someone will say "yes, but now it's on-demand! You can watch them (mostly) when you want." Sure, but they're also nearly pure manna to the networks/stations, whatever, tons of stuff is royalty-free or rights-free to them--actors didn't have residuals at that time or what-have-you. I'm pretty sure that the estate of Raymond Burr isn't getting a penny when I watch Perry Mason reruns from the 50's!

I don't know how they work the concept of "one person in Lower Slobbovia streams it, so Netflix has to pay you $0.0001 for that single stream," or whatever, but by and large, selling us reruns is nearly pure profit to them. Set up a server, make sure you have the bandwidth to deliver (which for NFLX is largely free, thanks to US laws), and voilà.

For us in the Netherlands it isn't mostly reruns like for you in the US. We don't get all of those series and if they do air a new season is often broken up with old episodes. So streaming is great.

Every once in while I get in a mood where I just don't know what to watch and nothing catches my fancy. Usually watching movies for a while works. Sometimes I just start a new series or season and hope it'll interest me.

Last night I watched Book of Shadows: The Blair Witch 2, which was a lot worse than I remember from watching it the first time when it was just released.

I've no idea what I'm going to watch tonight. I might give Succession or Severance a try, I've read good things about both.

I opted to watch a streamed film last night for a change, and wasted several years of my life (well it seemed like it!) watching the dire 2022 remake of Stephen King's 'Firestarter'. As I remember, the book (1980) was not all that good in the first place and the 1984 first film version was pretty poor.
This one is down there among the all-time clunkers of misbegotten tripe that should never have been made (IMO)
