FREE--Henry M. Morris' The Scientific Case Against Evolution Booklet.
Henry M. Morris' The Scientific Case Against Evolution is available free at several places on the Institute for Creation Research's website. The following are at least some of those places.
The 28-page pdf is here. It is a little dated, having been copyrighted in 2001: https://www.icr.org/i/pdf/tracts/scae.pdf. It is also available as an html on several webpages of the ICR. I am giving all of them (that I know of) in case some of the booklets are updated, or otherwise different, versions from others: http://www.icr.org/home/resources/re...instevolution/. http://www.icr.org/article/scientifi...nst-evolution/. Also, here: Part 1: http://www.icr.org/article/scientifi...ummary-part-1/. Part 2: http://www.icr.org/article/scientifi...summary-part-2. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 09-11-2015 at 06:25 PM. |

An Outstanding Markdown Price ($3.99) on this "CoffeeHouse" NIV Study Bible!
I don't know how valuable the studies on key life issues and important topics in this study Bible might be. However, there are about 50 (yes, 50) very nice color maps (with an index) therein . If you don't have these maps in another study Bible or somewhere else, they alone might be worth the price of the book ($3.99) to you.
This study Bible was published only a little over 3 years ago. I do not remember ever seeing it marked down before. My posting of this book does not necessarily mean that I agree with any doctrinal positions taken in the non-Biblical text of it. NIV CoffeeHouse Bible. By Zondervan. Rated 4.5 stars, but from only 4 reviews at the present moment, at Amazon; rated 4.00, but from only 1 rating at GoodReads; another edition shown at GoodReads, Coffeehouse Bible-NIV, may have the same text--it is rated 4.60, from 33,460 ratings at the present moment. Print list price $29.99; digital list(?) price $9.99; Kindle price now $3.99. Zondervan, publisher. 1216 pages. http://www.amazon.com/NIV-CoffeeHous...feeHouse+Bible. Book Description For many of us, the coffee shop has become our “third space”—the place we go to share life with our friends and family. It’s the place where we meet to discuss things that matter—life, love, politics, religion—and everything in between. The NIV CoffeeHouse Bible is topically divided into distinct study areas, each allowing you and your friends to consider the place of God and his Word in your life today. Studies on key life issues and important topics will engage your coffee group gatherings for an entire year and get you thinking about things that matter in this hectic world. Each of the 52 studies is broken into sections to fit the amount of time you have. You can use these ‘short’, ‘tall’, and ‘grande’ sections by yourself or with your friends. 3583 Pages of Writings on Christianity and World Religions. 100% Markdown (FREE!)
The publisher of this "book" (really a compilation of several books), E4 Group, is known for cleaning up (or obtaining them already cleaned up from someone else) the texts of public domain religious books and then publishing them on the WordSearchBible/QuickVerse Bible software platform.
I was surprised to happen upon, just a few minutes ago, this Kindle ebook published by them. I was not aware that they had ventured into the ebook publishing business. However, it does not seem like they have strayed very far from what they have done in the past. For example, the books making up this "book" are all in the public domain. In fact, I have more than a hunch that the collection of books in this compilation were previously published as (maybe they still are) a book package for WordSearchBible/QuickVerse. I was the owner and manager of a used religious book business for several years. Frankly, however, I did not recognize very many of the names of the authors or of the titles of the books making up this anthology (the titles that I did recognize, however, I believe to be excellent). However, that may very well be due to me having a weaker familiarity with good religious books of years gone by than I realize. These books very well may be gems that E4 Group has uncovered. I am anxious to see what they've found. I may say more about this new development and E4 Group in a later post-- especially if anyone expresses interest in knowing more. Christianity and World Religions. By Multiple Authors. No reviews yet at Amazon; the same is apparently true of ratings at GoodReads. That's true for both of them, I see. Sorry.
The markdown on the World Religions title, at least, must not have lasted long. I posted it probably within half a day of the markdown being reported. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for more markdowns from E4 and will, as I always do, try to post them promptly after finding out about them. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 09-18-2015 at 10:12 PM. |

FREE Ebook from Zondervan Academic on "The Crucified King."
Zondervan Academic publishing is offering a free pdf ebook by Jeremy Treat. All that we need to do to qualify for it is to subscribe to the Zondervan Academic Blog. The ebook is "selected from Jeremy Treat's The Crucified King: Atonement and Kingdom in Biblical and Systematic Theology" (from the download page).
Now, there is an ebook by the name of The Crucified King: Atonement and Kingdom in Biblical and Systematic Theology, and it is written by Jeremy Treat. It's 299 pages, and the Kindle ebook is regularly priced at $14.99. The ebook that we get is not that ebook (even with the format being disregarded). We must parse the words above carefully: the ebook is "selected from . . . ." What we get is an excerpt, chapter or two, or (the best scenario, in my opinion) an abridgment. Is that a little bit deceitful of Zondervan Academic? We each can be the judge. Although this little ebook is only 65 pages or so long, the text is pretty tightly spaced, and kerned, and such like, so there is quite a bit of material in it. As we possibly would suspect, based upon the publisher being Zondervan Academic, the ebook probably would be difficult reading for the average church member. Anyway, here's the link to the webpage where I found the offer. The offer is near the top righthand corner. FYI--signing up for the Blog, on that webpage, will take you to this webpage where you can download the ebook. As usual, I will give the caveat that I give when posting books on this thread; my posting of the book does not necessarily mean that I agree with any doctrinal positions taken in the book. The ratings for the ASB at Amazon are not all that good. This might be a good opportunity to impress upon people who don't know it, not to trust ratings when there aren't very many raters or reviewers who gave them! They just aren't going to be reliable. There are a slew of editions of the ASB at GoodReads, it was going to be hard to figure out which one was the one that you posted. No matter, they're all very highly rated, especially for GoodReads, whose raters are, shall we say, not usually as charitable with their ratings as those at Amazon. Also, while both of the ebooks have the same publisher (B&H = Holman), these books are not only directed toward different people, they also have completely different authors. Thanks for the posts! |

I ran kindlegen on the epub and other than some wonky drop caps (which is a problem I've had with kindlegen in the past), everything seemed to work fine, including the table of contents. I didn't try it, but I seem to recall that Calibre does a better job with the drop caps. I don't know what B&H did to mess up the Kindle version, but if you convert your epub to a Kindle file, you'll probably have a better experience than buying the one from Amazon. As far as the editions go, I have a paper copy and several epubs (B&N updates the download whenever the publisher updates the file and I usually keep old ones for comparison). As far as I can tell, all of them have the same content. The only difference is that the ebook uses a slightly newer version of the HCSB text than the printed version that I have. |

I never have thought about lower ratings at Amazon than GoodReads being possibly due to formatting issues. That may be due to the fact that I try to review only content when I do reviews myself. I definitely will keep that in mind, and check the reviews at Amazon more often and more carefully! The information about kindlegen was very helpful. I did not know about it. It's probably been discussed in other forums, but I rarely go to any besides this one. Thanks, once again for sharing your knowledge. |

The website thenivbible.com, which I'm sure is connected somehow with Zondervan/HarperCollins, is offering a couple of interesting pdf ebooks.
Actually, I would call them booklets, since each of them are only 10-15 pages long. But there's a lot of substance in those pages, Furthermore, they're written by a noted evangelical scholar, Douglas Moo. Here are the direct links: The Challenge of Bible Translation. We Still Don't Get It: Evangelicals and Bible Translation Fifty Years After James Barr. |
