But as Blossom said the selection is nowhere near as broad as Scribd or Oyster.
So there's no option to borrow the book--as if it is a new item for you?

I'm planning to sign up next week or so, and the audiobooks are the big perk I want to take advantage of.

Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill book one in the Chicagoland Vampires PR/UF series has dropped to $1.99
Quote:
First in a brand new series about a Chicago graduate student's introduction into a society of vampires.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was Merit's. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.

Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she?s traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan Lord o the Manor Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries? worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude? and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan?s attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone's still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war and there will be blood.

You know, I was thinking about this. I have books that I bought or got for free at some point I haven't read yet and they are in KU now. I don't think you can get a KU book if you already own it. I am going to try that by finding one I own and see what happens when I try to read for free even though its in my account already. Just finding one of those now will take a while.

I signed up for the trial because I was reading "Angelfall" with my July prime loan and wanted to read the next one right away and not have to wait until August for the next prime. I have about 42 books in my KU wishlist so if I keep it, it will hold me over a few months. I think they are mostly Montlake titles, Amazon publishing and some other publishers and a couple of self published I wanted to read like Rosalind Laker.
Most of the SP stuff in there is not of interest to me. They really need to get some publishers for this to work in the long run. Otherwise I won't keep this and stick with Scribd alone. I wish I had know earlier and then I wouldn't have bought the last in the Kathleen Turner series and a couple of other Montlake titles I bought on a daily deal sale.

I have to say the immersion reading is really nice on the Nexus with the combined audio book. Many of the amazon published titles have narration included.

I have 30 days to make my mind up. Well, 29 days now.

I have looks at KU but I will never subscribe. I think Amazon pissed off the big publishers and they are not going to do anything to help Amazon make money. I have not even tried Scribe or Oyster. I have to many free deals I have gotten and if I really want something I prefer to buy the book. If the book is available at my library I usually borrow it.

But I never signed up for Prime. It may be a good deal for others but not me. I am not a big video fan and only download specific series from television (Under the Dome) and very few movies.

The major drawback I see with KU is none of the big publishers and it requires a credit card. It states no debit card is allowed.

If anyone here believes KU is worth it let me know I might reconsider.

Not sure if this is helpful for you, but I'll post my amazon wishlist here from what I added so far for kindle unlimited. I just started. Hope this link gets you there.

and here is a goodreads shelf of prime loans I already read over the last 2 years. Most prime loans are also in KU and especially those that are from amazon publishers are. Some aren't in anymore of course.

No, on the product page for an book you already own, there is a button (above the orange "Buy one with 1-Click" button) that says Read for Free with Kindle Unlimited, but when you click on the Read for Free button it takes you to the next page saying that you already purchased the title.
I honestly haven't gotten much out of the Prime lending library, partly because you can only borrow a book once and that's it. Sometimes I lose interest in a book and want to come back to it later. Prime is worth it for me for the shipping benefits though.

I don't know what I do without Prime. The 2 day shipping is a must for me. Litter costs a lot to ship otherwise and even with Prime I have to order it a week in advance to get right when they run out. 2 day shipping is now really 4 day.

1. The day you put in your order
2. The day it says it's shipped and on it's way to the carrier.
3. The carrier finally has it
4. The carrier delivers it.

Imagine using the free shipping option without Prime.
KU should be included in Prime or at least a discount.

That's how I feel. Instead, it costs MORE than Prime, and believe me, we get our money's worth out of the free 2 day shipping. It seems to me that Prime should cost more than KU.

No slight or offense whatsoever intended towards Blossom, of course. Duh. Stop jumping to conclusions.

Just suggesting that now that Amazon have introduced various degrees of free books (sneaky bastards that they are), it will help everyone in this thread if we are clear with our labels of them.

Atunah I am more of a historical/regency romance person with some contemporary thrown in. Vampires are not my thing. I have never gotten into them. Even books by Anne Rice have not interested me in vampires or any thing paranormal.

Historical romance is my favorite sub genre of romance. Most of what I read is HR actually. Scribd I think has a lot more selection on that front though, lots of great slightly older stuff there.

I will think about Scribd. They have more of the big 6 than amazon will ever have.

Thanks Atunah
