No I wouldn't call them that. I really need to read that book. Right now still devouring the Cat and Bones series. Reading First Drop of Crimson which is suppose to be a spin off book about Spade but its not a spinoff it's part of the series just no Bones or Cat in it. I'm glad I found that out I was going to skip the spin off now I know I can't if book 5 is to make sense.

BTW I think I decided on buying After the Night as my 2nd Linda Howard book, seemed the safest bet for what I might like. Now to get to it!

I never have been able to warm to this book. I think it crosses the line with rape (my personal opinion, other people don't think the same).

Where did you find this out? I have #4 next in the series, so if I need to read the Crimson series before #5, I need to know!

Yes you need to read Spade's and Mencheres stories before #5 or you will feel lost during the first half of book 5. I'm listening to them as I love the narrator who does the entire series, spin off books and all. Overdrive had them all.

Also make sure before reading the last book #7 to read the novella about the holidays. It's one of the most important stories in the series and the reason she canceled book 8 & 9 because she accidentally wrote the story arc in that novella making book 7 only needed. It's also Important to read Vlad's books after the holiday novella. You can get the complete reading order on the author's site.

I did a lot of googling to figure if I need to read everything and other than a few small novellas it looks like I do.

Cry No More I think you would like. It's full of angst like those NA books you read. It's so much more than romantic suspense and it has a antihero. They call it a ugly cry book. It wasn't for me but I'm weird like that. I cried many times during the current vampire series I'm reading though.

If you read alot of KDP books at least $10 a month then I guess it's worth it. For us who read mostly mainstream titles though I can't justify the money when I pay $9 to Scribd and have access to Harpercollins , Simon & Schuster. Smashwords and alot of other small print. I've yet to find many KDP that weren't on Scribd so for me I don't see me subscribing. If Amazon got the big guys on board I would switch in a heart beat but right now not just a huge slush pile if you ask me.

I signed up for the trial of Kindle Unlimited. For me the biggest advantage this program has over Scribd or Oyster is that audiobooks are included free for some Amazon-published titles when you add them to your Kindle Unlimited library. But there's a major quirk that I wish I could figure a way around. When you already own the title there's no way to add it to your Kindle Unlimited library to potentially get free access to the audiobook. It doesn't seem fair that if you have paid for the KU service and purchased the book you can't also access the audiobook I contacted Amazon CS via chat and they sent me to an Audible rep who didn't really understand my question, so I may just try calling them after a while.
But as Blossom said the selection is nowhere near as broad as Scribd or Oyster.

I find most KDP audibles to be subpar recordings. I'm very picky when it comes to audio books. Just like the fever series which first three was done by Joyce Bean which I loved. The last two was done by Natalie Ross and some guy who sounded like the incredible hulk. Horrible! I return them. The series I'm listening to now has the same narrator on all books. It's very rare to find this but Tavia Gilbert is awesome. I loved her voice acting on the Shadow Vampire series by Sarah McCarthy so I was excited to see her read the Cat and Bones books.
