What happens of you don't do a restart - will calibre run, and is it the new version? When it's happened to me I've ignored the message, and carried on regardless… with no known side effects.

I can confirm that calibre 9 does not always shut down cleanly. Calibre itself is not bothered by it, but as is to be expected an install is; I found out when updating a portable install and the installer complained that calibre was running.
I haven't been able to figure out yet what triggers it. |

It may well be something on my system (Win11 Home 25H2 build 26200.7840) that's triggering it. When it's triggered, because it doesn't always do so.

It might be worthwhile using one of SysInternals tools (especially ProcessMonitor) to ensure that all calibre processes have terminated. I know at times I've sent instances of a calibre subtask remain active after the main program has ended. If any are seen then just right click on the process and select the kill option.
