Maybe I should make a note of trying to read some more some day!

So yes, in general, I have no doubt that some of the books they’ve published would work for me.

It’s just that .. I’d need a lot of motivation to even try, heh, and there are so many other books around with blurbs that make them sound worth trying, and much nicer covers...
The first book in that series is not the best, IMO (both Cordelia's Honor and The Warrior's Apprentice can be counted as the first and I mean neither of those is the best). I liked all the subsequent ones better (up to and including A Civil Campaign, it went downward after that, but it's not really necessary to read further). Still, I get what you mean by motivation - there are several series where others have told me that subsequent books are much better than the first, but I just haven't managed to read them.

I can't be bothered being that picky. I barely look at the cover I just want to get to the story. If I consider the story to be bad, then I will stop reading it. Life is too short to be too fussy about things unless it's a matter of life and death.

Does anyone else refuse to read books with AI-generated covers?

I'm not going to draw a hard line. It may make me less likely to pick the book to read.

And I'm not sure I can always tell if a cover is AI generated.

I probably can't tell most of the time. I mean, unless there is a third hand or something (and there has famously been a third hand with a human-generated cover too - https://www.christinadodd.com/christ...e-armed-cover/), how CAN one tell?

How would I even know if the cover was totally AI, slightly polished with it, or created from scratch with design software?

I see the same models on books all the time, sometimes different poses, sometimes not. Can I know which are when AI took them, or when someone paid for the pic?

I don't think I can know. How can you actually tell?

Oddly, although I have enjoyed the entire series and I agree the most recent ones are disappointing, in my view the first books (chronologically)--Shards of Honor and Barrayar, sometimes reprinted as Cordelia's Honor--are the best. Warrior's Apprentice, on the other hand is very weak.

De gustibus non est disputandum

I thought it was bad form to judge a book by its cover. I've been told my entire life to not do that. I'm not going to stop now just because some authors may use AI to generate a cover.

Now the actual picture may cause me to skip a book. But how the picture was created? I don't care.

I wouldn't read it. Life is too short and the library is full of other books.
