Even worse, in many countries there's a law making DRM removal illegal. In the EU, for example (this despite the fact that many EU stores and publishers don't use DRM at all). So governments passing a law against DRM is very unlikely.
EU couldn't pass a law against georestrictions either (there was talk a while back that it might, but the movie industry raised such an outcry that it was never mentioned again). Last edited by Sirtel; 01-06-2026 at 11:56 AM. |

When there's a law making DRM removal illegal, it's not likely that the same government will pass a law making DRM use illegal.

They would not be forcing them to SELL books without DRM. The could PROHIBIT the sale of books containing DRM. There are already a huge amount of things that are prohibited UNLESS the install X, Remove Y, Prevent Z (Hint: Automobiles falls into this pit)
