I am assuming you only EVER used OFFICIAL Calibre installs. Distro packages are notorious for doing it THEIR way (without all the testing that gets done for Kovids version).

The Editor has its own set of preferences (L&F is just one)
Once installed, Calibre upgrades almost never touch those settings.
