Also people who now know the sliders are there, especially in Edit Metadata Single - All on one screen where the three sliders were invisible.

The sliders are hard to see in a dark theme. But for a light theme, they sliders are no problem to see.

It is the opposite -- with the light theme the slider handles were invlsible. This can be clearly seen by comparing before and after screen captures.

This is the calibre 6.7.1 Edit metadata single window. Find the sliders. And find the one that could be a slider but isn't.


Here is the calibre 6.8 window. The slider handles are easily visible.


EDIT: and for completeness, here is the same image in the dark theme using V6.7.1. The slider handles are clearly visible.

I like the new sliders. Did notice that on the Edit Metadata screen, the slider between the Basic Metadata and Comments does not work for me.

Do you mean this one using the "Default" metadata layout?


It works fine for me on Windows 10. The slider also works for me on the "All on 1 tab" layout

The "Compact metadata" layout doesn't have any sliders.

Which Metadata layout are you using, and what OS are you running on?

I'm on Windows 10 and mine has Comments on the bottom, not the side. The cover is on my side where your comments are. I am using All on 1 tab. Is there another Preferences choice that I should be using?

No other preference needed.

I suspect you are running into "minimum widget size". If the dialog has a vertical scroll bar then the widgets are already as small as allowed, so the slider can't change them. However, the 'comments' slider can be pulled down until the comments disappear.

Do you see a vertical scroll bar? If so, what happens if the dialog size is increased (vertically) until it goes away? Can you pull the slider down until it "snaps" and hides the comments box?

I'm going to have to disagree. I can see the sliders easily in 6.7.1 light mode. In dark mode, it's not easy to see. These squares should be in dark mode and not light mode.

I see a vertical scroll bar. When the dialog size is increased and goes away, the slider moves maybe 1 cm. Yes, I can pull the slider down until it snaps into place and hides the Comments. So, I'm sure I'm running into the "minimum widget size". Thanks for checking. (I like to see the first line, at least, of comments when I'm editing). This change is very nice - I do like to check out the new stuff, which is why I commented about not getting this particular one to work, not because I'm looking for something different, just because (as a really old systems designer) I just have to check all new stuff. Amazing what this program does!

I agree with JSWolf. It looks very invasive to me.
Maybe with round dots with less contrast, and not so close to the border.

Also, I see a white background (I don't know if it's customizable that color ??)
