maybe commonplace for your collection. i now have read this year 30 books, and NONE of them had ever more than 5000-10000 locs. 100k+ loc sounds just crazy. are those webstorys or something? i have one that is REALLY long (The Legendary Mechanic), but even that is splitted up into multiple files.
my guess: Oasis 3 is maybe more powerfull than as an example a PW4. maybe more RAM or similiar - never really checked the exact specs of each kindle to know that. but it sounds reasonable and logical for me that this could be the factor. Last edited by Kusuri; 09-05-2022 at 05:10 AM. |

I mean they are commonplace in the crazy huge fanfic things I have on my Kindle, not that they are generally commonplace or that it's anything but kinda crazy to have that much stuff in a single book. (My point was that these huge things do work for me, no misbehaviour.)

The DXG was bought for PDFs and is really junk from new. Slug slow. The KK3 had only mobi FW when it was passed on to me, but the FW I did added KF8. It's slow and with a big book very slow. The PW3 is OK, but inferior to the original Kobo H2O I passed to a grandchild. Much faster than KK3, but I imagine WiFi download of such a big book would be a problem and I'd not chance sideloading. I've only played with the Oasis for a few days and deliberately let it update FW and I downloaded all by WiFi except 30 books via USB & Calibre. I can believe it would cope with such a silly omnibus. I put some 70 Mbyte and 190 to 240 MByte epubs on my original Libra and it worked, but you'd guess a bit big. I've plenty of 30 Mbyte to 270 Mbyte PDFs on the Kobo Elipsa and it's fine. I was naive when I bought the Kindle DXG! Worst gadget I ever bought new. |
