As for the errors it found, unfortunately, it's not a perfect system, so it may not be able to correct all errors automatically. You can click on each one it shows and it will put your cursor on the line that has the error so you can edit those manually. It's time consuming, but once you're done, it'll be worth it.

Unfortunately, there's no one single fix-all solution to everything that needs fixed here.

Fix does a fairly good job for many, BUT it is not a substitute for knowing HTML / CSS.
(Sometimes, even knowing HTML, you will do a bit of hair pulling. Another builtin tool View: inspector (this expects you to know the box model the all the code uses)

The link "None" points to a location toc_id_25 in the file index_split_001.html that does not exist. You should either remove the location so that the link points to the top of the file, or change the link to point to the correct location.

I clicked the link to try to correct all fixable errors automatically but it still shows all the same bugs. But I don't understand how to 'correct the links pointing to a location not in the target file'. And I'm quickly starting to understand that this is WAY beyond my ability to fix or even comprehend!!! (where are the smiley faces when I need them!!)

Umm... the error check is already saying it doesn't know where the link is supposed to be pointing. It's going to be up to you to figure out where it was attempting to point and if it was really needed.

My thanks to all of you. But my head is spinning from the information you've given me. I doubt my mind would stay in one piece trying to implement all that needs to be done. I might get it set up in Word again, and try rebuilding in Calibre to see what happens. Every book has had it's own little issues when I've done the conversion before. It uses totally different HTML sequences, like different dialects of the same language. None of them have been the same as any of the others. Really confusing to an old guy like me. If I was 30 or 40 years younger, I'd make a stab at the changes. If redoing the book in Calbre doesn't work, I'll live with it not being perfect. Again, you have all been wonderful. THANK YOU!!!!!

No worries, we all have our own little quirks.

Ever since I learned how to start making my own ebooks for personal projects, I've learned the best way for me personally is to hand-code everything, so that way it's all exactly the way I want it and there's no extra garbage code I have to fix or weed out. Or for any books that need fixed that I download, I do it all manually to make sure it's exactly right for my taste. That's just me.

Glad we could provide at least some insight to the coding and error process.

You would just need one single style to make your background black and the text white. Such as:

Notice the only difference are the color lines. You can remove that and combine those two into a single style. Just make sure to change your references throughout the book. Then just continue cleaning up the styles until it's clean with only a few styles instead of *gestures to all* all that garbage.

That's all just a suggestion or guideline, not an absolute. To me, that just looks like a huge mess of styles that needs to be cleaned up. If there are any graphics, they should have their own style(s) as required. Granted, the background and text colors can be separated to be put in their own style if necessary, and all the block (and calibre and other) styles can be modified as needed.

However, since we don't have the book(s) CK is trying to fix to their preference, there's no way to tell exactly what style coding to use.
