Or what is the exact instruction to do that?
Is this Windows? If so, there are three ways you can eject. From calibre, from explorer, or from the icon in the notification area. They aren't all the same. The eject from calibre won't eject the device if something else is using it. The other two will display a message if the device is still in use. Unless a device job is running, calibre shouldn't block the eject done in these ways. Someone has stated there are differences between the two Windows ways of ejecting the device, but, I don't remember what.

I nearly always eject from within calibre. I would mainly use Windows if I am not running calibre, or something blocked the eject. And I usually use explorer to do the eject, but, have had real no issues when doing it from the USB icon. But, I have a feel that this is more likely to result in the device needing to be unplugged before it starts the post-eject processing.

You don't even need a patch for that, you can just enable AutoUsbGadget https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kob...perSettings.5D

Automatic connection isn't a good idea with some power supplies. Also sometimes you might just want to use the laptop or whatever as a charger.

I'd never enable that.

I would never enable it either. There are cases where an external charger is seen as a USB port and you would not be able to charge and read at the same time.

And strangely enough, you would learn that that happened with the charger and decide which was better for you depending. Personally, I have it set on my main ereaders. And the external chargers that I use do not trigger connection mode. It is far to convenient not to use.

There will never ever be a situation where I want to charge and read at the same time. Just not in the realm of possibilities with me. I've been using that particular patch since it was available and it's never been an issue between my chargers and PCs. And should I find my reader suddenly at 0% battery and I would absolutely die if I couldn't read right that second, I have 2 other Glo HDs to read from with all the same books.

Like davidfor said, it is far too convenient not to use.
