But if it is the default New Library, do I still delete the files shown in it ? I am sorry to ask so many questions, but I am new to this.

Yes

Move (rename) expects a Folder that is empty
(you probably made a New Library at some time with out realizing it)

FWIW the folders name is your Library name, it can be anything valid

Then you fumbled the mouse and selected Create. instead of Move.

If you have a complete (old), intact Library, just copy the entire contents into that EMPTY FOLDER using the OS (calibre NOT running)

I have transferred my calibre library from my old MacBook to my new MacBook via an external drive. I now need to export my library to my Fire tablet, but my MacBook is not detecting the tablet, and the tablet is not detecting my MacBook the USB-settings in the tablet show that file transfer is enabled, but also that transfer is to be controlled by the tablet. Thank you again for helping me.

For the benefit of any others that have struggled as I have with this. -- and judging from what I have seen online, there are many,, many such others -- here is the eventual solution:

1. I went to Manage My Content and Devices in Amazon, and ticked my Amazon Fire as my default Device.

2. I uninstalled Calibre from my new MacBook, and reinstalled it.

3. On my old MacBook, I exported the contents of the Calibre Library to an empty folder on an external drive.

4. On my new MacBook, I imported the contents to Calibre.

5. Wearied by interminable discussion about special file-transfer software, the need for a particular type of cable, using wifi or email, I connected the Fire to my MacBook with a cheap generic. cable of the kind scorned by Amazon as unfit for the purpose. I now noticed that, even though Finder on my MacBook had not detected the Fire, Calibre had done so, in tiny print at the foot of the window.

6. I clicked Send to Device in Calibre selected all 124 books, and sent them to the Fire. A good many of them were in a format not recognised by the. software, but I clicked Convert as required. The task took about half-an-hour, but to my great joy the books are now for the 1st time in nearly a year in the Fire, and I have read parts of them to verify that all is well there.

Again, thank you all that have tried to help me.
