Well, that could be a whole new thread. :-)
I use mine for backup, sharing to different systems and controlling my surveillance system. I got the Libra today and getting books from Calibre server was pretty straightforward. |

FWIW, my Calibre library has been in Dropbox for many years. It works perfectly as long as you only access it on one device at a time.

NAS
Hi.
If there is more than one computer in your home, a NAS could be a good thing to have. I would recommend FreeNas. Regards |

Or an old PC with Linux. Though the last Mint for 32 bit is 19.3, and 2G RAM will work for that. Performance is limited by HDD and LAN, not the CPU.

Google Drive specifically will eat the numbers that Calibre uses to keep track of what folder a book is in.

The only way to be careful enough is to never ever have any cloud software touch the library. If you really want to put your library on some cloud server, sync your active library to the directory for the cloud server software. Then if it all goes horribly wrong, you've lost nothing.

I do wish these cloud storage programs allowed a one way sync to the server.

Fortunately Dropbox is more robust than Google Drive or OneDrive. In the case there is conflict in syncing, it doesn't delete your files, but creates two copies of the conflicted file (one of them named conflicted copy). So if you catch the error soon enough, it won't be hard to correct it. In addition Dropbox has 30 or 180-day (depending on the plan) file history and recovery. I've never needed to use this option, though. The few times I made a mistake and Dropbox created conflicted copies, I always found them quickly with the library check. OneDrive now, that really just deleted my files, even when there was no conflict. OneDrive is very unreliable with a Calibre library. |
