Update: Went through technical support with Amazon, tried a few different things. Nothing worked.

I gave up. I have no idea what the hell is going on. I have no desktop access to my Kindle books anymore. This can't be happening only to me.

There is a solution. Buy a cheap Kindle from Amazon and download all of your eBooks from Amazon. That will work.
