Good evening Jon ;

Unfortunately not because my server and my other computers on which I need Calibers are running WIN7-64.
V.3.48 is the last one running WIN7.

: sais pas:
I have two small questions on the forum, why do my smileys stand out like code? and 2°) customization doesn't show me in a simple way how to put an avatar!

Sorry, but that is not accurate. Calibre 4.23 may work on Windows 7 and if not, you can always uninstall and reinstall 3.48. You have nothing to lose by trying 4.23.

Considering that he already has video issues and those are the common cause for issues running calibre 4 on Windows 7, I suspect he will be needing your uninstall 4.23 and re-install 3.48 (I suspect his customized 3.19 will be the version he goes back to.)

Probably it will be easier to use the 4.23 portable installer for his testing.

Hello Jon ;

For the concordance of WIN and Calibre Versions I relied on the indications of the Calibre site. And a user of the forum confirmed it to me, so I didn't go to try each version.

On the other hand what is possible on a computer becomes difficult on my main server (on or off = 20mn each. Making a restore point 15mn/30mn using a system restore, not always possible, I work a lot, too many programs would be modified, and duration 45mn to 1h30, without speaking about crashes always possible)

I have seen that in the reader which is no longer called reader (the little lamp) but viewer (and why not reader?) evolutions exist. So I will try the 4.23 following your advice and following David's precepts.

Yours sincerely, Jean-Mi

Hello David;

You're right, around 2014 I think, Kovid had a lot of trouble fixing interface display problems that weren't just supposed to happen to me.
3.48 I'm forgetting because there is no evolution from the V.3.19 reader I have.
I'm testing 4.23 portable because the player seems to have been improved, I'll see if these improvements are the ones I'm expecting.

Detail :

Thanks for the avatar, I can finally show now that I'm not an accommodating person!...(and especially see my posts at first glance)
Do we have the right to complain about free things? Probably yes, every day the fishermen are complaining about the lack of fish in the ocean...The farmers about the lack of rain...

The avatar I chose weighs 8.74 kb and measures 110X110 pixels, its name is formally perfect = "avatar_1105rb.jpg" but invariably the forum answers: "the loading of the file has failed" (10 tries, only to notice that from the first one, no doubt, the avatar was in place! I was informed this morning of an answer dated 02/01 on another thread! the forum is a liar and the fishes have learned what a fishing net is...

See more with test results
Sincerely Jean-Mi

Hello again Jon and David

So summary:
The 4.23 portable version initially behaves like the 3.48 (glued on the left) but I then managed to move it on my screens.

DEFECT: Everything inside the interface remains huge like in a children's game or when we were using PAINT in 1985. Giant button interfaces.
As a result, the central area of the columns is reduced.
Comparison interface 4.23 which must be adjustable and my 3.19 version installed.

[IMG][/IMG]
PROBLEM: A new drive yes. But, but, but, only its interface has changed. Absolutely all the settings, I already have them in 3.19. I end up telling myself that Caliber only evolved on points of detail or bug fixes between 3.19 and 4.23.

Presentation idem all the controls of my player 3.19 are with small buttons (4 to 4.5 times smaller than on version 4.23) leaving plenty of room for reading while having the controls directly.

What is described for example for the highlighted text in the manual should only exist in version 5 (I don't know from which one).

I imagine that there is also in English the maxim " THE BEST IS THE ENNEMY OF THE WELL "!

I think we'll have to wait for version 66 which will work with paper books.

thank you very much, Jean-Mi
