If I am not wrong , You can just put it on the filesystem -> go to that location -> give it execute permissions (`chmod +x setdate.bin`) -> run it like `./setdate.bin [arguments-go-here]`

thank you very much @Overtone1971

Is this possible to achieve this w/o USBNetwork Hack?

The wrong date ( 1970 ) is preventing me to open KUAL, which is preventing me to install MRR packages ( such as USBNetwork Hack )

I have never used USBNetwork Hack before but I`m ready to lear this as soon as I can get to that point.

Is there any other way?

I have JB, then installed MKK, MRR , certificate updates and KUA. Now I can`t open KUAL because of date check. Looks like a dead end for KINDLE DX?

If I'm not mistaken, a file needs to be named update_*.bin to run it as an update.

Try renaming the file to update_setdate.bin

what I have tried is to replace the full name of bin file which does work as an update

setdate.bin -> renamed to : "Update_mkk-20141129-dx-B004_install.bin"

and the file does not show up as an update ( greayed out )

while the actual Update_mkk-20141129-dx-B004_install.bin filer ( 88Kb ) works

that should eliminate influence of a name.

Based on that file name, you seem to have the Kindle DX U.S. model (serial number prefix B004).

There are a few different variants of the Kindle DX, and I believe an update file will only work on the specific Kindle model it was made for. I checked that setdate.bin file with KindleTool, and it was made for DX Graphite (S/N prefix B009). So it won't work with your DX (B004).

I made a file that should work with your DX and attached it to this post. For future visitors to this thread, I've also included files for all variants of Kindle 2 and Kindle DX. Just use the file that matches the first four digits of your Kindle's serial number.

File Type: zip setdate_kindle_k2_dx.zip (3.9 KB, 595 views)

THANK YOU SPARTANHEAVY!!!!!!!

Ohh boy I wish I saw your post 4hrs ago :-)

Here is what I did in the meantime and KUAL is working !

1. JB
2. Installe USBNetwork Hack via Kindle OS update using ZIP file from this page: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=88004
One does not need KUAL MR Installer for this one.
3. Enable USBNetwork Hack on my Windows PC
note: host is 192.168.2.1 and Kindle is 192.168.2.2 ( not ...15.244 ) took me while. Guides are here, one will need drivers on Windows 11
4. telnet 192.168.2.2
5. command: mntroot rw
6. change the date by command 'date 111120422024'

KUAL now starts

jeeez I`m riding the way of Jailbreaking 14 years late :-)
