How to do a Year Category? - Page 2

I tried yearpublished:false and it didn't show any results. It didn't turn the search box red though. Is Unknown some sort of invalid word for this?

I think it might have something to do with you choosing sort by number. Try with sort set to text (since it is always a 4 digits this should not affect the sort)

I took the template that chaley helped me with in this thread and made a few small modifications:

Code:

program:
	p = format_date(raw_field('pubdate'), 'yyyy');
	if p then
		strcat(re(p, '^(...).*', '\1'), '0s.', p)
		else 'Unknown'
	fi

Make sure the column is set to sort by text or searching for unknown won't work.

In Preferences > Look and Feel > Tag Browser, put the column into the "categories with hierarchical items" field. This is the result in the tag browser of my fanfiction VL:
