  1. No difference, a rose by any other name. I just prefer ssl.
  2. If it's a well known certificate authority such as GoDaddy. Comodo, Symantec, etc., you might be able to get the intermediate and root certificates from them but would need the server certificate from the IT dept. If they are running their own certificate authority (Windows, etc.) for local use certificates, the IT dept. is likely your only source. It's possible that you can grab the certificate chain from a local SSL server but that is unlikely to give you the private key in an exportable form.
You might want to check Explaining the Chain of Trust for an explanation of server/intermediate/root certificates.

Any PEAP connection is going to need a certificate. The Protected refers to setting up a secure TLS tunnel to keep from exposing your login information. A simple setup might supply a certificate when you register which you will need to export and import on your Kobo. Other times, the certificate may be available for download which I've seen done by several universities.

As I said, you are going to need to talk with whomever is managing the wireless system. I don't know the setup, I don't know where you are studying. And I am hitting the point I feel that pointing out that while I am willing to give general advice, I am not being paid to hold your hand is in order.

To quote @theducks:
"In general: I am willing to Help, Not do your Homework for you. - I will provide: key words, tips, links - - and my favorite... Brainstorming solution to a unique situation."

If it's eduroam, there's a metric ton of documentation about it online, with specific details for nearly every insanely weird setup under the sun.

Not that I've ever bothered myself (a phone AP is The Way), because there's a non-zero chance that even *if* you do get it to work, the firewall and filtering might screw with a Kobo's expectations.

For eduroam, I would say "there's a metric ton of contradictory documentation".

You might want to look at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=247678 to get some ideas about how to create a custom KoboRoot file that would allow you to easily get an updated wpa_supplicsnt.conf and certificate onto your device.

The zip file in that post just contains a KoboRoot.tgz that replaces /etc/wpa_supplicsnt.conf. You would need to customize the wpa_supplicant and also add in the cert file in an appropiate directory.

@PeterT Thanks, but my USB port is a bit wonky. I use SFTP. I only need to get the cert for transfer as I have already edited wpa_supplicant.conf.
