What Jon said is not quite accurate since there are several modifications to the basic 1024 compressed bytes being a page. The only real advantage to using them is that those numbers are consistent across devices regardless of screen size, font, font size, line spacing, margins, etc. See the Wiki entry Page numbers if you are looking for more information or just suffer from insomnia.

As for any discussions about page numbers, they seem to end in a "holy war" about how to calculate them, should they be tied to a "golden" paper book's page numbers, etc.

Read, enjoy, use page number or percentages to give you some idea of how far in the book you have read.

Just curious: why hasn't Kobo released firmware to fix the Reading Progress feature? It's a pretty central feature for their devices. Do they hold to a fixed schedule for releases?

Considering some of the *other* bugs Kobo has let sit for several months over multiple firmware releases, I would hardly call this one "central".

I would be thrilled if Kobo took any kind of care with releasing regression fixes, but unless it's absolutely critical, (ie, people can't buy books for their store or are returning them,), just about any bug fix gets rolled into the next feature release, with a whole new set of bugs to go with it.

Kobo have pulled releases and released quick updates several times. But, I don't think I have seen a single one that was because of a problem with the store. All of them have been in cases where people couldn't read their books, or the performance was so bad the devices were unusable. Where they are in the rollout cycle when it is reported probably also has an affect on whether they will release a quick fix. As would what their plans for when the next release is (6months? quick fix. Next month, wait).

While it may ba a "pretty central feature" to some users (including me), I'm guessing Kobo doesn't consider it an important feature.

Considering the information is available in the header and footer, at least for current chapter and book, I doubt this is high on Kobo's priorities. Yes reading progress gives you some more info but the basics are available in a non bugged means.

If you disabled them in settings that’s your choice, I have them disabled as well. But the information is still available to those who think the progress is a must have feature.

Nope. This thread is about the menu being re-arranged to a less convienent location. It is more difficult to get to.

This thread is about the option being moved, which is up to Kobo to resolve if they want. The thread expanded to mention that the option is currently bugged anyway right now and how important it is to Kobo to get a fix out. To which the reply seems to be “not very” because it doesn’t prevent people from reading and the basic information provided by the option is available from non bugged options.

Sigh, I know multiple topics can be confusing for some. But you really seem to want to stretch even the remotely believable limits of not being able to follow along. Here I'll break it down for you.

1) Post about the feature being moved. No one, including me, has said this was a good idea. Some have suggested work arounds, you might not like them that's up to you.

2) It has been mentioned this feature is currently bugged anyway because it doesn't keep progressing as you move along in the book. This is the bug which people are talking about Kobo fixing. Not the placement of the feature under multiple taps.

Given that neither is a "central feature" because you can still read your books, it's not going to be something Kobo prioritizes.

Now as to the placement, it's likely something Kobo puts even further down the list, it's still there, you can still get to it from within a book. People might not like the extra tap but really that's down to minor inconvenience at best. Obviously some will think this is a major drawback, but as far as reading and buying books it's not.
