Kindle DX doesn't have capacitive nor the light layer, and pdf text is pretty sharp. Last edited by Marinolino; 10-03-2019 at 01:00 PM. |

If I were in the US I would follow your advice and definitely would buy and use 10.3" eReader. Unfortunately, I am far away from there ![]() |

And two other things I forgot to mention. The contrast is poor and the text is not all that sharp.

The first thing a DX/DXG owner should do is wipe it and dump it in electronics recycling, or maybe sell it on eBay where you might find a sucker. The first thing a former or prospective DX/DXG owner should do is get a Kobo Forma. |

The best thing a DX is good for is a doorstop.

The 9.7" screen of a Kindle DXG is LESS good for same size image based PDFs than a Kobo Aura H2O, though few PDFs are good on either.
The DXG is big and heavy and no easier to read than a 300 dpi 6" screen. I thought it might be good for someone I know with Macular degeneration. Doesn't help. It's obsolete. Fine if you have one and can't afford better. The original idea of the DX and DXG was education. Screen, software and speed all too poor so the the scheme was scrapped and DXGs sold off cheap. |

I have elder members in my family who always use Kindle DX outdoors despite owning 8" Pocketbooks, and I would also almost always use Kindle DX outdoors (or 10" Hanvon) for such wide pdf/comics instead of Aura One, and indoors it would be iPad or monitor. I'm not a student anymore, so the flipping & highlighting speed is not as important to me and I still rather use pen & paper for the note taking although several of my eink readers and lcd tablets have a good pen support. I've changed two batteries on my DXG in the last six years and will probably buy the third for the summer 2020, unless I buy a newer 10" eink with frontlight or hopefully Clearink tablet. While I was figuring out what to do after my "adventure" with Kobo customer disservice I dug out my DXG. It was bad compared to my Aura One. Really bad. |

I've bought Aura One mainly for reading scanned paperbacks/hardcovers that make majority of my current pdf books and although those are easily legible in Aura One's portraite (12 cm width) they are also as legible on Kindle DX portraite (14 cm wide).
