I love Stephen Baxter. To me, he is Arthur C. Clarke junior. I loved their collaboration, The Light of Other Days and have recommended it to others.
That's one of my favorite books too, I always recommend it to others as well.

Another thing for me is authors who write more than one series, but I'll only read one of the series. Like Ellie Griffiths , I've read all of her Ruth Galloway books but none of the Magic Men books.

Authors I like but have had a few clunkers recently have been Chris Bohjalian, and Elizabeth Strout. These are not series books all stand alone. Although I'm still interested in their books, I'll wait for reviews instead of pre ordering now. I still like them as authors.

For me, my favourite author would probably be the late, great Dave Duncan. I've read most of his books, own quite a few of them, liked almost all (there are a few exceptions) and have re-read a fair number.

There are a number of other authors I would put on my "favourites" list, for similar reasons as to Duncan. David & Leigh Eddings. Terry Brooks. Tad Williams. Raymond E. Feist. Jim Butcher. Katherine Kerr.

And there are others for whom I haven't read a lot of their output, but what I've read I really liked. Timothy Zahn, mostly for the first five Thrawn books (although I've also liked the first two Blackcollar books.) Alan Dean Foster for the Spellsinger series. There are others I'm sure.

Can an author who wrote one series you enjoyed really be a favorite? I like the song Take On Me, but that doesn't make me an A-Ha fan.
