I'm fine with that change, since it does not cause the drop to fail, unlike not accepting the drop if its proposed action is not copy.

Feel free to send a PR I will merge.

There several "dragMoveEvent" methods. I'll check them and test for a few days.

Ah yes, I see it now. Within a fie manager, if I don't want the default result of a left button down drag drop (i.e. copy if different devices, move if same device) I do a right button down drag-drop and select what I want, and I make that decision before I start dragging and dropping. In part it's due to the fact that when I need accuracy with a pointing device I often need two hands on the tiller.

I wouldn't like to see calibre behaving like a file manager in some instances and not in others, At the moment it seems quite consistent, apart from the Autoadd feature, incoming files remain in place no matter what method is used to get them into the calibre library, or into an EPUB or AZW file via the editor.

If any changes are made in this regard I'd like to request that the current behaviour be retained in some way, even if it means I have to adjust a Preferences - e.g Drag-Drop behaviour = calibre-classic (no deletes)

We often drag files from the book folder to the Book Details panel - scenario.
  • A book is added via an RTF file from a file manager using the Windows Send to feature;
  • We open the RTF in Word via calibres Open With feature;
  • We save it as DOCX to the same location as the RTF;
  • We close the document in Word - to unlock the files
  • We go back to calibre, press 'O', and drag-drop the just created DOCX into Book Details. That records the existence of the DOCX in the database, I can't recall if the file itself is wrangled in any way, my memory is that its create and modify timestamps don't change.

It's not only RTF we handle in this way, ODT and TXT also get converted to DOCX and some PDFs; and we do similar with video and audio formats, converting say Jing SWF to MP4 with Handbrake, FLAC to MP3 with Audacity, EPUB to MP3 with Balabolka etc.

This process is embedded deep in our collective psyche, so, we'd hate for it to stop working

@BR Take it easy nothing is changing -- the only change under consideration is that windows will now show the word "copy" instead of "Move" to better reflect what happens on drag and drop into calibre.

Sorry Kovid - I had the impression that deleting the file being dropped was under consideration.

Instead of 'Copy' (rather than 'Move') as the cursor hint text, would it be possible to have 'Add' if the format doesn't currently exist, or 'Replace' if it does, that would make it consistent with the confirmation popup.

No, the text comes from windows, not calibre, calibre can only tell windows if it means ot copy or move, not arbitrary actions.
