I don't remember the firmware version I had for sure, but it was a recent one: my ereader did connect to the internet and did an upgrade the day before I did the downgrade.
Downgrade was done with no trouble. But it took a long time, and at one point I though it was not gonna reboot. It finally booted and I kept following what was indicated on the wiki. It was few days ago. Unit coming from EU too. I've been able to upgrade to the latest firmware (5.9.4) later on with no problem. Last edited by datanoise; 02-18-2018 at 11:01 AM. |

Didn't have to install anything. Did you try using Chrome/Chromium, so that you can use google translate to make sure you click on the right button?

If you had a capture (log) file enabled on your serial terminal emulator while you did the work.... Compress it and attach it to your next post. Otherwise, give detailed description of each action you took. Include names of files and tools used. |

for some reason putty didnt want to save the log, but i copied from the window
now what i did attached the serial interface, all working booted up, went into diag, chose to mount fat partition copied the 5.8.9.1 factory image restart screen still garbled. ok, thought to go on with jailbreak, removed root password, as in the tutorial not i'm stuck from going forward with jb because don't know what files to use, and i dont know if to go forward, as the screen is stil distorted. it looks like a smaller screen occupying the upper right half is correct, but zoomed out, as if the dpi is not correct the rest of the screen: the left is showing the background with the hill and the tree, but the tree is covered by the smaller screen the bottom part is just many lines thanks! |

Installing the 5.8.9.1 factory image broke the device - So you tried to fix it by re-installing the same image that broke it in the first place? ![]() Fortunately, you did not follow the directions on the diags screen - And use the menu entry to load the image. So you managed to make two mistakes that canceled each other out. (wrong file, wrong option so that the wrong file was not loaded). Since you have a serial port connection, you can jail break any image you want to. So use the diags menu to install a regular, customer, image file downloaded from Amazon. That will "fix" what you broke. Then all you have to do is jail break what you just installed using the serial port. The "jail break" is simply the installation of our signature certificate in /etc/uks directory. Whoot! Done. Once our signature certificate has been added, you can continue without the serial port. I.E: Just use coplate's "rescue, nomax" version of the hotfix package. That is signed with our key, but since you just put our public key on the device ... Everything will "just work". |
