One of the problems with the smaller screens is less real estate for a keyboard. One of the really cool things about the later models of iPads and iPhones is the thumb print reader and how many apps are allowing you to use that instead to typing in your password each time. For the apps that support it, it really works well. Just wish that Apple supported it with regards to signing into iCloud!

Apple's design philosophy has long be simplicity. Thus they don't really support the super customization, be all things to all people model. They provide you a preferred solution and that's the end of the matter. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. I hate that they removed audiobooks from playlists, but their solution for going from one audiobook to the next in cars is carplay. If your car doesn't support carplay, well then you need to buy a new car! That's the Apple philosophy.

Yeah I always wondered why they wouldnt bring that over to the 10" iPads, if only as an option...

I've had the 12.9 for over a year with a pencil and love it for marking up scanned PDF - which, for unknown reasons, look far better on the ipad than on my 4k monitor. And yeah, the pencil has to be plugged in for about 3 seconds to re-register before use and the battery indictors usually don't show for either pencil or ipad on the status page.

Occasionally my Pencil doesn't register either, but it usually does. If you restart the iPad then you have to re-register the Pencil by plugging it into the iPad as you stated, but it shouldn't drop the registration as long as the Pencil is close by the iPad and has a sufficient charge. There might be a timeout feature though. I charge my Pencil every morning in a 3rd party charger. I too have noticed that the battery charge indicators sometimes don't display in the Status page. Both of these issues seem to have improved with iOS 10.3.1 installed, but Apple still needs to improve on this quite a bit.
