Some are, some are not.* You should be able to find if a particular document is not copy protected on its description page. I wrote that as I did because I have only seen notices when DRM is not applied to the document. I.E: No notice that it isn't copy protected, it probably is. *) The active content documents on the Kindle development forum are not copy protected. (Heck, they aren't even closed source. ![]() Last edited by knc1; 05-06-2017 at 10:39 PM. |

The azw2 format may hold either programs, static documents, or active/inter-active documents. You ask an impossible task, one that would require checking the content of the Amazon store. But I can substantiate my point, that "Active Content" in azw2 format does not require the use of DRM. Go to the Kindle Developer sub-forum here, and at least look at the pictures of using KUAL and Collections Manager. Both are most certainly programs in azw2 format and neither of them have DRM protection. And neither are available on the Kindle Store. I seriously doubt that any active content azw2 format on the Kindle Store is open source. The Kindle Store is operated under a different set of policies and business practices. It is policy and practice that determines if something in the Kindle Store has DRM protection, not a technical requirement. Also of note is that Amazon has publicly dropped support of azw2 active content on the generation 8 devices. Although their implementation of their own policy still seems a bit shaky.
