One issue with buying a T series Reader is that you won't know how good the battery is. The battery could very well be shot. If you buy say a new T2, it's been sitting there unused for some time and the battery could be flat and the battery does not like sitting there for too long being flat. Buying a T series Reader would be a waste of money. They won't be enjoyable to use. Getting the light cover is either difficult or expensive. A Kobo has more features, is faster, higher resolution, newer ADE, newer screens, and faster. Nothing is better about the T series. Remember PRS+? That was because some wanted their Sony Reader to do more than it culd out of the box. The Kobo patches are because some people want to customize how their Kobo works. Both Sony & Kobo work out of the box. It's just some want things to work differently. |

Alas I am unable to locate a GloHD anywhere nearby. It looks like I will have to strike that off my list. :-(
In fact the nearest Kobos, being both the Aura2 and the H20, are a little over 2 hours away. I wont be able to have a look at them until Boxing day though. On the bight side though there is a good chance they will be on sale during the usual Boxing day sales so I might save a few bucks. |

No, that's wrong. The T2 is superior to the T1. The T1 was actually quite flaky. The T3 and T2 are similar.

But as for what works, I've never read of Kobo or Kindle having these issues. |

The T2 has the same version ADE (no hyphens) and the same 800x600 screen. The T3 has a 1024x758 (or is it 768) screen and a version of ADE that does hyphenate. So that makes them more different than similar.

My T1 can be flaky. Unexpected crashes and such. Add an ebook? It'll crash. Delete an ebook? It'll crash. I even updated the firmware and, while still quirky, it does crash on occasion.
I've never had my T2 or T3 crash on me like that, using the exact same ebooks as I had on the T1. So, T1 is tucked away and I use the T2 or T3 mostly. |

I have not had any problems so far with my T1 crashing when adding or deleting a book. It does occasionally lock up when I try to look up a word.
The other weird thing it's started doing over the past year is sometimes when I put it into sleep mode it goes to sleep, then immediately wakes up again. When I put it to sleep the second time it stays. Neither of these problems happen often enough to make me rush out and buy a new reader. However, I may consider replacing it now that the Overdrive update has made it impossible to borrow books directly on Sony readers. |

The footer is there, but I've never considered it massive. It is probably bigger than needed, but I like having the page info, so it doesn't worry me. |

Well after going to check out the Kobo's on boxing day, the store had them turned on but not set up yet. The only option I could try was to set one up via wifi but all the available wifi networks needed a password. So, in short, I got to see how 1 page flipped and could read a list of wifi networks. That's all. I'm a hands on kind of person though so I wont buy one until I can actually have a proper play with it. I did like the size of the H20 though.
On the bright side, I found a youtube video showing how to bypass some sort of battery overheat chip in the T1 by soldering a wire between two points. So I gave it a try and it has fixed my T1. I can read again! Since Sony problems have been mentioned, for the last couple of years my T1 has had a problem where it will freeze up occasionally, normally when trying to look a word up in the dictionary, sometimes simply when trying to turn a page. It requires a pin in the reset hole to fix it. It didn't do it for the first couple of years I had it, only the last couple. It's annoying but not enough to make me spend $219 to get the Kobo H2O just yet. |
