If you backed up you PC, you probably have that file.

If you want to back up just Calibre, there is the tool to do that on the Library Icon. That backs up all the Libraries AND user settings. Have a goodly sized backup drive

The problem sounds like a general thing somewhere around. If your template in metadata plugboard are ok and the metadata of your books in calibre are ok too (specially when you send new books to the reader), then there are for me two things left to check:

For a)
I would suggest to delete all books from your tablet/reader and send for a test only a couple books to your reader and check theses books. If these books are ok the templates are working correct. If not you need to check the metadata plugboard template (granting, that the book list at your reader don't display file names). Then you need to go forward with b) once more.
If the new books are ok at your reader, you should check the setup for metadata management if the entry is set to automatic management. Keep in mind, that only books will be updated if they was send with the correct setup. If you had change that entry some time in the past the automatic will not work for all books at your reader. Maybe this happen with your setup too.

For b) Maybe you can attach a screenshot of your plugboard entries and the metadata of the book too. Sometimes it is only a turner in spelling (e.g. Germans often wrote author or autor instead of authors in the template)

By the way, what app are you using to display your book list on your tablet. May there is a problem too (only a additional idea to check).

I have about 1500 books in my tablet and if i have to delete and upload all then i wouldn't know which one I haven't read. It is going to be a tedious process.

I am using Moon+ Reader Pro. But It shows the same when I open the sd card from my PC (LN, FN) so I don't think the app is the problem.

I did that (which took me 2 hours ) but the calibre update hasn't changed at all.

Yes!
Rename the configuration folder (AKA keep the old one with a different name)
When yo restart Calibre, it will be recreated fresh.

You will also need to add your PI again.
If you use a library other than the default name, you will need to point Calibre to it.

what is PI?

same problem again. It uploads how i want it for the new books but all my old ebooks are in the format of LN, FN
