The Kindle Voyage is an excellent fiction reader for me personally (and no, I'm not claiming that as some great universal truth that has to be the same for everyone

The perfect ereader would be one that stops time, so we have time to read all our books.

Did you read the full comment?
The part where I prefaced it with: "For my tastes"?. Nowhere do I say my tastes need to apply to you. If you bother to look at my device history it includes the Pocketbook 360, ebookwise/Rocketbook, and Sony PRS-T1, which I use in dual column landscape. All asymmetrical devices with paging buttons. The Oasis Form factor is straight out of the school of design. So I repeat: for MY well, established, and publicly documented tastes: the Oasis Form factor with a plastic substrate screen and a better battery would be perfect for ME. Whoever gives it to me, whether Amazon or a generic Chinese ONE using Android will get MY business. You can take yours wherever you please, it won't change my preferences. Live and let die, dude. As the OP, may I ask that we confine ourselves to stating our own preferences without criticizing other's preferences?
Thank you! |

A 6 to 8 inch e-ink hd screen lighted, 4:3 aspect ratio--the larger screen could be 16:10.
An open operating system that is easy to update/upgrade. Let me load and use my preferred organizing/Reading software. A battery that would last for a week using it 4 hours a day--32 hours using the light. Gravy would be page up/down buttons on the side like on my phone. Oh yeah a minimum of 3/8 " thick so it can be held easily, none of this thin stuff. bernie |

The Voyage with an even screen (mine is pretty close). The screen is the most important thing for me and the Voyage has the best contrast and no shadows from LEDs. I also like the Origami case which allows for easy reading while eating. I like the size as it fits easily in my purse and is light to hold even with the case added.

Back in the PDA era my preferred reader was the HP JORNADA with an edge mounted rubber rocker switch. My thumb rested right on it so all I needed was to increase the pressure slightly. No real movement needed. There's also the Kindle Four (?) With the pivoting paging buttons on the side. Similar results: easy to grasp, easy to page but only when you want to. Edit: it was the K3. It was the "pivoting paging buttons" thing that confused me. Pivoting in what sense?

Oh I see, if you look at them from the side, when you push one it goes away from the ereader just a bit. |

My perfect ereader would probably be most like the Kindle Voyage (with its flush, capacitive touch screen and the way the text appears almost printed onto the screen), but with the following improvements.
Side page turn buttons. Perfectly even lighting (possibly with the ComfortLight feature of the Aura One). A few more text, line spacing, margin options. More comfortable to hold (lighter, maybe some kind of grippy back, or perhaps the design of the Oasis, never held one so don't know how good it is?). Plastic substrate.
