No chicken soup costs $9.99. That's just way overpriced for a nice bowl of soup.

I won't tell you what I REALLY think it looks like, but I will say this: As a young man I was employed as a security guard at a place in California that manufactured Mexican TV dinners. The vats were round and HUGE and had a winding staircase that one climbed to get to the unsecured, open top. The smell was disgusting. Rats could climb into it and drown, although in all honesty I don't recall every seeing a drowned rat in one of them.

Give me Chicken Soup any day. (See how I cleverly moved my post back to the topic?)

I heard this story second hand but apparently one Mexican restaurant used to cook their hominy in an open vat outside. One day a guy working on their roof fell off into the vat.
Guy nor hominy was hurt but they didn't throw the hominy out.

Now back to chicken soup, the key ingredient in my jambalaya is chicken and somehow it always fits the pot.
I have to watch which pot I grab. I once made 20 quarts. There are two of us.

Insects, Mold, and Other Legal Food Contaminants

Quote:
Eating fly eggs, rodent hair, mold, and fecal matter may sound a lot like a challenge on Fear Factor, but it’s just an episode of our daily lives.

Unintended additives—indiscernible to the naked eye and unlisted on ingredient labels— squirm, crawl, fly, and plop into much of what we eventually put in our mouths. In fact, these unsavory morsels are so common that the Federal Drug Administration permits certain levels of these “natural contaminants” in our food. The FDA’s Food Defect Action Level Handbook establishes the amounts of contaminants permitted in about a hundred plant-derived foods. At or below these levels, the FDA has determined that the defects— however icky—are harmless.

Don,
Can you do something about this monkey?

He apparently is trying to poison our chicken soup with his fishy tuna and rotten bananas. Or is that rotten tuna and fishy bananas?

Reminds me of "perpetual stews". My grandmother used to have a stew pot that would never go completely empty.
