Can you duplicate it by pasting the same data into other applications that give you the plain text choice when pasting?

Spoiler:
(Apparently Notepad Plus doesn't remove the header information.) BTW, when I looked at the clipboard content with the free Windows CLCL clipboard manager I saw the same fragment tags when I selected HTML Format from format list. I.e., the fragment tags are definitely generated by the app the text was copied from. IMHO, this is a purely cosmetic issue since the fragment tags are valid comments. If the OP doesn't like them, he could create a search and replace clip to remove them. |

For Windows there are clipboard utilities that will scrub markup from the clipboard, I use one called Clipboard Fusion. When its enabled I don't get the question when I paste into Sigil's Book View - from Word, Firefox or the calibre ePub viewer.

I know where it comes from and how to remove it. I just wanted to know if there was a way to prevent it in the first place.
Or maybe an option in 'Mend and prettify' to remove them PK |

Sorry but no. Sigil might fix some invalid code when you allow it to, but it's not going to remove perfectly valid code as part of its Mend or Prettify features (nor is it going to diddle the content of what another application placed in the clipboard before pasting it).
You can easily create a clip to find/remove the comments you don't want, and even assign a keyboard shortcut to the clip for convenience. A plugin can also be written to do something similiar. This is just not something that's a good candidate for inclusion in Sigil's core functionality, I'm afraid. Last edited by DiapDealer; 07-03-2016 at 12:02 PM. |

OK, that's interesting. Just exactly how would you create a clip that would search and replace something?
There is nothing like that in the clip editor andI can't find any documentation about the clip editor. The documentation on the Sigil site is for ver 7 and won't open anyway. PK |

Sigil ver 7.2 docs epub hosted on our github site is still quite relevant and opens just fine with Sigil. What error message are your getting when trying to open that file?

1. Press CTRL+ALT+F to open the Saved Searches dialog box. 2. Press CTRL+E to add a new entry with the following data: Name: Delete fragment tags; Find:<!--(Start|End)Fragment--> (Leave the Replace box empty) 3. Click Save and close the Saved Searches dialog box. The next time you see fragment comments and want to delete them, you'd: 1. Switch to Code View mode and select the Regex mode. 2. Press CTRL+ALT+F to open the Saved Searches dialog box. 3. Select the Delete fragment tags saved search and click Load Search. 4. Click Replace All. This may sound complicated, but all you'd have to do is one key press and 2 or three mouse clicks. If you want to avoid having to switch to Regex mode, you could also create a Saved Search group with two entries: one for <!--StartFragment--> and one for <!--EndFragment-->. |

Cool, didn't know you could do that. It is hidden very well.
Why isn't there a context menu or tool bar for Saved Searches??? PK |

Well that fixes the problem with getting errors when using clips to put things in the Find box. This is way cooler.
Wish I'd seen it sooner Thanks for all the help, PK |

Well, it is the menu and if you right-click on the search field, you can select a saved search. It has been in Sigil since 0.6.x I believe.

Yes, I know now. After I found out about it I figured out how to use it. Love the Group function.
