There a still no dots in Grid View (cover view) and in list view there are dots followed by percentages

Update #2: Scratch the last update. It may still be an Amazon server issue but I am still experiencing the thumbnails problem. A good number of thumbnails are missing and nothing will bring them to my device except a reset, which then seems to affect a different random batch of thumbnails.

And once, instead of the Kindle Oasis User Manual, it downloaded a "Kindle Solstice User Manual" congratulating me on my purchase of the "Kindle Placeholder." Every reference to the device inside the manual was as "Kindle Placeholder."

Update: This appears to have been an Amazon server issue (it was occurring with both 3G and wi-fi). After another reset of my Oasis, the device appears to be getting 99% of the thumbnails.

Unfortunately, I'll have to reset the other devices because they appear to not make another attempt at grabbing the thumbnails from the cloud otherwise. Is there a way to easily delete/reset the thumbnail cache?

I am experiencing a serious problem with cover view thumbnails with this update (5.8.1).

I perform a reset on my Kindle devices when a major version firmware update is released. I noticed that I now am missing a fourth to a third of my cover thumbnails. Also, when I download a new book from the cloud which was showing the thumbnail, the thumbnail often reverts to the generic cover thumbnail.

This isn't on just one device. I have a Kindle Oasis, two Kindle Voyages, two Kindle Paperwhite 3s, and one Kindle Paperwhite 2. I am seeing this behavior on ALL of them.

Resetting the devices again just results in different thumbnails going missing.

Is anybody else seeing this in cover view? Any ideas? Any fixes?

After installing this update on a jailbreaked Voyage with everything all right, Kual works, but all the MRP updates of RP, CRP and Python fail with some kind of fail script error. Am I doing something wrong?

Later Edit: have to reinstall MRP as well.

Over-the-air firmware updates are rolled out over a period of several months, and generally don't start until the download file has been available for a week or two.

A Kindle cannot be infected by a PC virus. It has a different type of CPU. (You could, in theory, get the payload for a virus copied to the USB-mounted drive, and thus have the Kindle become a vector for transmission of a virus between PCs, but that's a different matter.)

Yeah, the update is trickled out to customers over a period of several weeks in case a serious bug emerges on a small percentage of machines. If you don't need the features urgently, just wait for the trickling to reach you. It'll only reach you while you're on wifi, of course, but it gets more and more 'urgently' pushed, so in the end even those who only go onto wifi occasionally will start receiving more pieces of the update the moment they go online.

You're quite safe from that. The Oasis doesn't execute any software from the partition exposed to the user over USB, it's running a locked-down customized Linux installation so Windows viruses cannot affect it, and it doesn't have an x86 processor in any case (it's an ARM) so it can't run any programs that can infect your PC in any case.

The only risk is plugging the Kindle into your PC, getting its USB partition all virused up, and then plugging that into *another* PC and getting *that* virused up -- but the Kindle would be unaffected.

If you find a virus that CAN infect an Oasis, please send me a copy. I can reprogram it to ONLY insert our jailbreak.

Same problem but I'm also losing sideloaded book's covers, and I'm still in previous firmware (I'll upgrade now and try) PW2

Selecting text and changing the selection area with the handles used to work amazingly well on the Paperwhites (2 and 3, at least.). Now it feels like I'm trying to work on a Kobo. (ie: Not a good change.)

Honestly, it felt like that to me on both the PW1 (5.6.1.1) and Oasis (5.7.4). It's really hard to hit the handles unless you have spider-fingers. Has it got even worse?

I'm not at what point it got worse.. (and these being Kindles, I can't really go backwards to check/test.).. I remember it being super easy on the Kindles, but it's been over a year since I really paid attention to that.

We have been desperately* looking for a new infection point ever since Amazon "fixed" the old vulnerability that allowed us to jailbreak.

* -- for a given value of "desperate" and "we". Not everyone has the skill/time/applicable device.

Another change for this update, the reading time left is back to using a single letter for minutes left.

Example it used to say :
*Time left in chapter: 15 mins"
And now says:
*Time left in chapter: 15m"
